Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Wiccan BeWare Race (Magic 8-Ball Championship, Race 3)

This evening's Corvette run was interesting.
I made it through the tunnel fine, a slight issue with a turn after the tunnel and my HOTAS deciding to play up made the remainder of the race very interesting.

Following the tunnel section I was heading off to pick up the Domestic Appliances with 0% hull.
I felt there was no way I was going to finish the race as the corvette always takes damage when I land it.
Cargo runners never think about how much hull they have left when there is a profit to be made, so I continued on.

To my utter surprise I was able to land and pickup the Domestic Appliances without leaving spare corvette parts in the dock.

I thought there was no way I was going to be able to do that again, so I headed off to Vasilyev Vision with the Domestic Appliances expecting to add another rebuy the list and provide the citizens of Vasilyev Vision a lovely display of another Buckyballer blowing up on the pad.

Shockingly I was able to land a second time with 0% hull without blowing up.

Just to add to the danger at Vasilyev Vision I saw a pad an assumed it was mine, it was roughly in the right place and ATC was still telling me pads I had rejected so hadn't noticed until they told me I was at the wrong pad, so had to find the correct pad.

For your amusement I have uploaded the run, the tunnel section and real fun starts around the 6 minute mark should you wish to skip ahead.

I can't help but wonder if a couple of friday night beers improves the chances of landing with 0% hull.

The journal log reported the hull heath was 0.000737 (1 = 100%), so that would be 0.07% hull or 0.62 HP based on the total armour of the ship being 854.

Ok latest and last update until the final results

Ok the weekend is here and this will be my last update until the results on Monday/Tuesday. All the full times are now revealed so you know what you have to do!

In regulation we have Commander Bruski massively improve to pull into 3rd place pushing Captain-MD off the podium.

Further down we have jspace improve and take a spot above Epaphus but they are quite close.

Further down the field we have a new entry from Commander Mack Winston taking a creditable 14th place for a first entry. Doing this with a smooth bonus as well, huge round of applause.

At the lower end of the table we have Woolies bring in a decent run under 23 minutes with only a 1 second gap from Draig Seren that could get interesting.

Finally, another new entry from Stobi Wan with a good run and getting a bonus too. Welcome and enjoy!

In unlimited the fight for podium places is still in full swing.

Bruski has cemented an even more impressive time to hold that top spot but is no longer the only commander to break 13 minutes. The ever quick Shay Blackwood has jumped into the fight only 8 seconds behind to take 2nd place. (It is also worthy of note that he also ran a Corvette round in just over 17 minutes before penalties just for fun!!!) This has now pushed Sgurr down to 3rd place.

In 6th place we have a new entry from Darplata94 in a Vulture in a superb time well under 15 minutes. Excellent flying there.

Spatula007 has pushed an Imperial Eagle round in a 15 ½ minute time to claim 9th place. Well done indeed.

At the bottom of the table we have Epaphus who has took a Corvette round in under 20 minutes. There is a penalty however and some station owners complaining about damage.

Ok that’s my final report over and will see you all at the finish line.

Fly hard!

Ok it does say "Fly your ship" not "Fly a ship" through the tunnel. But as it will make little difference to the results feel free to try it.

Biggest difference on the Vette run would be a lack of penalty from the tunnel. :)

I'm actually surprised at how much I did gain, I thought it be a lot more.
I guess penalty excluding I'm not losing as much time I thought forcing the Vette through the tunnel.

Yeah without the penalty that would be genuinely quick, surprisingly so actually. Guess it is a comfort to know that the race is suitable for any platform, any ship (almost should I say), any skill level and any version. Now that`s inclusive!

I have been out of action for a few days, but I'd manage to set aside some time this afternoon to try and have a couple of goes at moving up a place or two on the leaderboard.
First run - Crash
Second run...

Third - Abandoned at Gateway as I was a minute slower at that point.
Fourth - Crash
Fifth - Crash
Sixth - I managed to finally improve my time! I really had to nail it to be able to get an improvement, and considering how I literally nailed one of the landings, I really don't know if I can improve.

Run submitted.

Submitted probably my last entry, slightly improved time, I think, despite equipment failure (joystick started developing downwards drift), so had to do some in-flight maintenance. And managed to get through the tunnel (which has been my curse from the start of this challenge) in one piece (win as far as I'm concerned) and above 300m/s (bonus win)
