Elite Dangerous Livestreams - 28.04.2022

You think so? It's certainly not the best I've seen, but it's by no means the worst either.
The problem is that since the new year, there was no comms until after the bad news about consoles and although there has been two updates (which we were told about before christmas), there has been nothing said about future plans for the game apart from a vague nod by Arf about update 12. As much as it's been nice to see the CMs try to engage with the community again, the problem is that the vast majority of people tune in to see if fdev have any future plans concerning the game and they're losing confidence when nothing new has been announced during 2022 and that Odyssey will follow the consoles into maintence mode.

Personally, I'm hoping that fdev have something up their sleeve with the end of the Azimuth Saga (like they did when thargoids were first introduced) but there are a lot of people who worry that elite is now considered a Sunk Cost Fallacy and that fdev will no longer develop for it. It doesn't take much for the impression to be reinforced.

No apologies needed!

The post was worded carefully and precisely. We don't know when the streams will continue. When we do, we'll post to let everyone know.

While I appreciate some reactions to the OP may seem extreme here's how it feels from this side (to some at least).

Imagine you're in a failing relationship and have agreed a "date night" every Thursday to try and keep it alive.
One Thursday morning without warning they casually say:
"I can't make this week, I'll let you know in the future when we can do this again."
Then they leave the room.
Queue much screaming, crying, throwing things and Depp-esque slamming of cabinet doors.
Then they stick their head back through the door and add:
"don't lose your blob - I said I'll let you know and I meant it"

🤷‍♂️

Oh so if we are worried about the future direction of a live service game,

It's a live service game that i payed once many years ago and i can still play today (and i do actually play it on more than one account)
It's not subscription based, it's not pay to win.
Yet it's still going*

It's not the case for, lets say The Witcher 3 that i played like 5h and i payed for it about as much money i payed for my Steam account (12 Euros) that has a play time of
Approximate time played: 3 months 4 days 7 hours 23 minutes

*(i dont expect it to run another 20years, but i'll play it as long as i enjoy it or until the servers shut down / whatever comes first)

Don't tell me I'm going to have to talk you down from The Ledge™ as well?

When you seriously see no issue with what is currently going on, no issue with a lack of any communication at all and a serious decrease in quality of content over the years, I start to question whether you really care about this game at all. You only want to defend the company and not the game. I can't wrap my head around why ...

You are correct to point this out. Frontier don't need defending. They have more or less said this themselves numerous times.

As you rightly point out, the issue is concern about the future of the game. And right at this moment, plenty of people are wonder how that even looks.

You're leaving out Elite's micro-transactions. 😉
And they aren't even that micro to begin with.

Nope, Not at The Ledge yet. like I said. I'm hoping that something will happen with the Azimuth Story. However, if galnet, cgs and thargoid incusions disappear as well then people will, quite rightly, assume that the game is in maintenance mode and will leave.

Phew. I'm not used to being The Good Person™.

Now, if FD made that FAS Crossfire paint.....then we'd know ED is safe.

Thanks for the notice, Bruce, and best wishes to you hardworking CMs and devs, please stay healthy during these times of stress and frustration.

It's unfortunate that the Top Brass once again show they are unwilling to learn from past mistakes regarding their management of their live service game Elite Dangerous. A company that's been overstretched for many years, blindly chasing growth at the expense of stability, with its staff and products suffering as a result.

Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

🤷‍♂️

Thanks for clarifying. Your meaning was very clear in the OP, hence I would have been surprised if you meant anything other than that.
An extra few words like, "Don't worry folks, Frontier is still committed to the future Elite Dangerous!" would have gone a long way to diffuse at least some of the doom prophecies in this thread. You can never over-communicate when it comes to reassuring your player base regarding the future well-being of your product.
