Do you need any other deer species?

I would love that.
Many wildparks i know also allow carrots and apples to be brought and fed to the animals and we allready have the mechanic that guests throw hotdogs and other junk into animal enclosures, so making it legal to throw carrots and buyable food shouldnt be that hard, as it could use the same system.
Not the biggest Fan of Ungulates being fed by Guests with Apples. Horses can get incredibly sick and even die if they eat too many Apples and I assume it's like that with many other Ungulates too (Pigs are probably a Exception). A few Years ago some Muntjacs even died in a Zoo because they were overfed with Apples. I guess Carrots even though not the best Choice would probably be relatively fine though

Yeah defenetly not something to do with every animal, but tbh i also have only seen it with pigs, red, roe and fallow deer, aswell as mouflon.
+ this is somewhat kept in check by apples simply being more expensive then the other two options, so most of the time everybody brings the carrits, but the true king brings an apple.
I honestly doubt that it has any significant health issues for the animals, as they allready have banned things like old bread and noodles, because its unhealthy for the animals

I would love a few more deer, especially ones that are different in habitat or geographical area to what we already have. Some I would particularly like include:

- Tufted deer: I thought about including the muntjac, but these deer have many of the characteristics of the muntjac (docility and being able to be mixed with red pandas) with the addition of being more threatened in the wild and looking very different to any other deer in the game, with their black coats.

- Philippine spotted deer: My home zoo has a breeding herd of these endangered deer and they are really great animals. They are a tropical rainforest species and therefore have some adaptations that make them look quite unusual for a deer - particularly their rather short legs in comparison to their bodies.

- Bukharan deer: One of my favourite deer, which would add an excellent Central Asian species (honestly, I would love to get a whole selection of Central Asian ungulates - these deer, Przewalski's horses and goitered gazelles particularly, to make large mixed paddocks) that lives in the temperate and desert biomes. The stags look utterly magnificent.

- Southern pudu: Would add a temperate forest species from South America, which is small and docile enough to live in walkthrough enclosures and is also mixed with a variety of other South American species.

I think I'd like to see the Pere's deer (as said, it's pretty unique, it's history is remarkable and it's a cool animal). And an Elk of some sort - they are just beautiful animals. Maybe a very small deer, from SA, to both help bulk out the SA roster and small animal roster both.

I mean, I'd love a ton of different ones, but these 2 (or 3) provide a nice range and variety, I think.

I don't personally need another deer species, but if they added in one more it wouldn't be a bad thing. Right now we have three very different types of deer, with the Fallow Deer being the closest to what people think of when they think of deer in general terms. Adding in a Red Deer to get even closer, or something completely different such as a Musk Deer or Muntjac would work as well. Additionally a Marsh Deer would bring in South American representation. An Elk (North American name of animal) would be alright. 0I'd prefer the last one not be the White Tailed Deer, since the Reindeer is also in part of its territory, but even with that, the White Tailed Deer does have a wider territory than the Reindeer.

But I think if we got one more, that would be plenty. I don't see a need for five deer species.

I would love a Key Deer, they'd also work great as part of a walkthrough habitat...they tend to be quite friendly with people...which has created part of the problem with them, the wild ones will gravitate towards people and tend to end up dead via cars.

Interesting. Really small. I assume due to them living on Islands. If we would also get a North American Wading Bird, we could make a nice Wild Florida Area with the Birds, those Deer and Alligators👍

Oh deer! I'm quite partial to these guys personally, so these are going to be some tough picks.

Personally I think the Red Deer is the most likely one to be added to the game since we already have statues for it. Honestly I think it would be a really nice species to have in PZ and it could wrap up our roster of European animals pretty nicely. Like the Alpine Ibex, it's one of Europe's more iconic animals.

I think the American Elk is a pretty important one to include as well. They're very big and impressive, second only to the Moose, so I think that would make them a great addition to the game. If I could pick a particular subspecies I'd choose the Rocky Mountain Elk since it has the biggest antlers and it could make for a really cool interspecies enrichment with the American Bison and Pronghorn Antelope. If this species was added I could finally do a proper Yellowstone National Park styled habitat with those three species living together.

While the White-Tailed Deer is common all over North America and I see them out in my backyard all the time, I'm actually more partial to its western cousin, the Mule Deer. They're found across western North America and I think they would be a great addition to our North American sections of our zoos. Their forked antlers are really cool looking imo and they have a very unique way of running called stotting. They'd also make for a great interspecies enrichment with the Bison, Pronghorn, and possibly the American Elk if it were to be added, which would be really cool as well, since they all live together in many parts of western North America.

Another spotted deer species would be great too, just to give us some variety. I think the Sika Deer would be a really good fit for the Asian sections in our zoos, although it does look a bit like a smaller Red Deer in a way which might make it a less popular choice. Therefore, my second choice for a new spotted deer species would be the Chital, or as we call it here in the United States, the Axis Deer. I think it would go together pretty well with our other Indian animals in the game.

A smaller deer species like the Pudu, Muntjac, or Tufted Deer would be really cool as well to show the sheer diversity in size that deer species can have. The Muntjac, like the Chital, would be great if you wanted to do a dedicated India section in your zoo, so it would be my preferred small deer species personally.

I do like the Père David’s Deer despite my unfamiliarity with it. It would definitely be a unique choice, but not my first one.

Another part, if I remember right, is that they were a bit on the small side for normal hunting, and in the area they live, the humans are less dangerous compared to everything else in the area that would target them.

It would be great to have one Asian species. Since we have some larger deer already, I'd prefer a smaller one, for instance a muntjac. A lesser chevrotain (not a deer, I know) would also be fantastic to have, especially given how common they are in every zoo in Singapore. They are a perfect addition to almost any habitat featuring Southeast Asian species. In addition, a pudu would be very nice to represent South America. I also wouldn't mind an elk, Pere David's deer or red deer, but they're low on my personal list given that we have some larger deer already.

Sika Deer would be nice. Mainly because they would be great for the native Species Area when I finally renovate my japanese Zoo 🙃
They should definitely add the Pere Davids Deer. Maybe in something like a Saviour Pack that includes Animals that Zoos successfully saved from Extinction (Przewalski Horse, Wisent, Arabian Oryx....)
I'd also like your other Suggestions though and I'd really like the Key Deer to make it into the Game. I definitely wouldn't be mad if Frontier would focus as much on Deer as they focus on Canids and Cats🙃

When I look at the sheet, I think "Damn, I need them all :ROFLMAO: "

I think one or two bigger deers and two or three smaller ones would be nice.

  • Pere Davids Deer
  • Wapiti Elk / Red Deer / Sambar Deer
  • Mundjak
  • Pudu
  • Tuffed Deer

personally I love the colouration of the Marsh Deer and the Axis Deer

I think we have the bases covered, with the fallow deer providing the standard common deer slot in the roster. I'd love some small deer, tropical deer, and maybe another european deer, but I'd also be satisfied with these 3.
I must say that the real standard deer is still missing in my opinion. When I just hear the word deer I think of the red deer. But I am European. I think the Wapiti or the Pere Davids Deer could also work as Standard deer species (just a bigger deer species with a brown-red coloration). But I am also your opinion that another deer species is not a must, but a welcome addition. And a small species of deer is also welcome (not only deer. I really would like to have a small antelope like the Dik Dik, Duiker or Klipspringer).
