I respect that FD wanted to make a game that is faithful to the original while adding in content that is as close to scientifically possible as they can make it.
On the other hand, they made a boring game that only appeals to astronomers and likely less than half the people that paid money for it.
Reviews will reflect this, and so will the sales figures. Oh well, I'm hoping SC does a better job at creating a more entertaining video game.

Just because the forums are descending into "doom threads" with whiners spreading their opinions in new topics every few hours this does not equate -in my opinion- to even a tiny percentage of the player bases opinions based on what i see and hear from those not on these forums.

Many have been driven away from the forums due to the whining, many more still are busy playing and enjoying the game.

David has had a hard act to follow you have to remember it’s the classic space Sim he invented and that paved the way for the others to follow. It will always be No1, the first 3D game in space that let you play your own way. Even after all the games David has worked on over the years that shows him to be the artist he is and one of the two fathers of the genre he has returned to Elite.

I hope Star Citizen gets released in 2016, Chris looks to be making the game he always wanted having loved the original Elite. I hope Elite will give me the experience I loved from the original of an adventure. SC to me looks like its focused on Multiplayer largely and huge in scope and I hope he pulls it off but I cant comment much on it as I’ve not been following it to close.

The game has not come out and it will be months before I get to play it but I’m enjoying the Elite ride and will love it I’m sure. Everyone has the right to share their views but just now before the actual full release to say is this it is a bit empty of a statement after all we just don’t know till its out. The great thing is everyone wont know what’s out there in space weeks and months after release till we find out. Exciting stuff if you are the first to see something or discover something that is a game changer. I tip my hat to the early explorers that I will be following months behind.

Remember also some of the dynamism will become clear over time and not immediately obvious. Playing the game for a 30 hours or two weeks in relation to the background simulation is the equivalent of looking at a 1/24 second of film and saying it doesn't move.

Polar opposite. The players that like and play the game are all still roaming these forums, giving their feedback and posting about the game they love so much. The vast majority of players that think the game is boring or sucks are long gone. Likely after posting their criticism and getting shot down by fanboys. I was gone for two weeks after making my thread and watching white knights rally in defense of their perfect game. And yet we still have "I am bored" threads popping up by the dozens weekly. Calling people with higher standards than you "entitled whiners" only makes you look like a doofus. The fact is, ED brings absolutely NOTHING new to the table, and nearly every aspect of the game has been done better by games in the past. ED is a flop. SC will have a monopoly on players one year from now. Only the hardcore grind lovers, people high on PCP, or 40+ year olds with the overactive imaginations that they needed to use in their era of video games will remain here.

The game isn't finished. It will be changing and having many additions of content and capability over time (even after release), so I'm not sure what use judging it is now, but you're free to do so.

Just like any book, movie, etc., some things are just not everyone's cup of tea. Others enjoy the living daylights out of it. "One man's trash is another man's treasure" and all that. At the end of the day, maybe Elite just isn't for you. No harm done, luckily there are many other games out there. Maybe you'll find one more suitable. In the mean time, those of us who do enjoy a wide open entire galaxy to explore will be enjoying ourselves and looking forward to every new addition to the game.

If people are getting riled up, that's entirely their psychological problem. Why do they need to get personally defensive over me talking about a video game? I've only criticized the game because it NEEDS to be criticized if anything is to be done. I try not to criticize forum members unless they say something absolutely or insult me, like has been done MULTIPLE times since I've posted my criticisms. It's almost unbelievable that the average forum goer here is over 35 because people sure don't act like it. Guess some people just don't have the mental capacity to disconnect themselves from a product and judge it accordingly.

Jeff, you are absolutely right even if the analogy is a bit off. The film analogy would be more like being part of a test screening. I'm hoping we've seen a bit more than 1/24th of a second of this film before it's released.

My current stats since the last time I reset: View attachment 1428 just so we know that despite me being on this forum for a short time, that is not the same as not being involved in the game for very long.

I'm so not a troll and just because i didn't get involved in the forums before 2 weeks ago does not mean i have not been following Elite for months now.

I actually try my hardest to not get involved in these idiotic threads but its pretty difficult not to when the level of comprehension of what a beta is has become so low.

I suppose the guy that said i must be on PCP or that Elite is a "flop" isn't a troll but i am..learn something new every day i suppose

Think ill listen to the mods advice now and just leave the thread for some time.

Both games will be great in their own right. As a backer of both, I will enjoy both for different reasons. Having (at least) two major space games under development is good for the genre and good for the player.

Trolls get mighty fat when fed often. I suggest ignoring the baiting and keeping the discussion positive. Or not, I guess, if you have a fat troll fetish.

Personally, I think this thread has stopped being useful, but that's not up to me...
