Why no communication?

i think you may be forgetting that there is a competitor out there with an extreme lack of originality building a somewhat similar game which has, as far as i can see, already stolen ideas from ED. if i was FD i would be rigged for silent running right now too.

I suspect as much...wouldn't want a leak that would allow someone to spoil your big day.

Shok, I'm glad that you are having a good time but what exactly is the point of your response? I did not express my fears, I did not state that other people are about to disconnect and I did not comment on player's satisfaction levels with the game. Rather, I asked if anyone knew why Frontier have been silent since the announcement of the release date in the face of growing discontent. I then went on to contend that this silence has been damaging in some form or another.

Now if you have something to add to my OP then I'm all ears. But if you are going to set up strawmen and knock them down I'm not interested in having a discussion with you.

Simple question. Does anyone know why Frontier dropped off the map since the 7th or thereabouts?

I'm looking at their most common forms of communication - Facebook, Twitter and the forums - and I've not noticed any activity in about a week. Before anyone suggests that they are simply too busy to be bothered by such things it's not a response that floats - they have community managers after all. I think it's a safe assumption that this is a policy of silence (for whatever reason) and one that I think has been damaging to some extent. It seems to me that some official communication (it doesn't have to be much) would go a looooooong way to allaying fears and reducing the discontent that has been growing lately.

Discuss.

(A response from the Frontier would be ever better.)

I decided to bold out your own words where you're suggesting the user base has fears and are growing discontent, something which has been growing lately? Really, where? I also don't think any form of silence has been damaging, we've only recently had a newsletter... Forgive me if I am wrong in saying this (Moderators), but I do think you're trying to stirr up discontent on these forums with baseless fears and assumptions. Especially, when you also add at the end of your statement "Discuss", this I consider flaimbait for the people on this forum, or certain sections of it.

And yes, I really am having a wonderful time with the game as are others I meet. None, have this attitude you portray here on these forums.

Shok.

P.S: Ed Lewis posted on the forums today and I've seen Tweets and Facebook posts in the last two days. Reported by another member.

Why this decision was made in the first place seems to me to be both a mystery and also mistake.

FDEV have always been like that. i mean they dropped the ks campaign onto the forum the day it went live and there was only a *hint* of a post by david walsh iirc.

it is their policy, agressive, faux transparent coms are not strong with them ^^ though from my experience they always do reply to pm, email and the like. even DB did so once or twice.

In the face of weekly newsletters, you ask why there hasn't been any communication in the last 5 or 6 days?

1) There has been a weekend!
2) last time I checked a week consists of 7 days.

Please note that I said "Does anyone know why Frontier dropped off the map since the 7th or thereabouts" and then I mentioned "in about a week". I'm actually including the newsletter sent on the 7th in this. Apologies if this wasn't clear.

While the video in the newsletter certainly placated me in as much as I'm now looking on the game long term, it apparently has not satisfied everyone. The release announcement and the accompanying newsletter is separate to the community reaction to the news. No?

Letting the forums get busy within certain parameters is one of the oldest publishing tricks in the book. Beats tumbleweeds any day and staying radio silent is more cost effective when you are prepping for a release, than talking to the internet.

Guess its always easier to blame the other guy when the game we are all playing is the one seriously lacking in pretty much every category right now. To think its less than a month from shipping final release has me extremely worried.

But keep telling yourself whatever it takes for you to sleep well at night. in the end that is all that matters. sleep

try to improve your noticing skillz. there have been plenty of tweets/retweets AT LEAST from FDEV and assorted staff.

things that have been reported since this weeks monday 10th nov included the presenters at the upcoming premiere, the out-of-character news about the newsletter.

so from there on it is difficult to answer your question as they are continously communicating.

and plenyt of good reasons have been given in this thread as why FDEV might be a tad busy on matters that are be more important right now, i.e. they are doing not talking :p

maybe we should follow that lead ^^

Even if it was lacking in every catagory, which I happily don't agree with. It would still be a lot more than other new genre titles out there. I for one am certainly not worried, in-fact. I only wish I had more money to throw at FD right now, but I just bought a six core i7 with all the latest trimmings just for this game. That's how confident I am in FD right now. Ever since the alpha and beta which has grown more and more and the improvements continue. Very excited about getting the occulus rift next. Combat will be taken to the next level. Explosive immersion that I recommend to all.

Shok.

You with your irrational concepts of linear time.

They're about to do a major software release. This means they're all stressed out fixing bugs, trying to squeeze in features, tidying up code. They'll be lucky to see daylight for a while.

Shok, you seem to suffer from selective reading. I did not say that other people have not been fearful for the direction of the game. The amount of threads started recently are evidence that people have concerns - which is my point. Please note that in resopse to your strawman post what I said was "I did not express my fears, I did not state that other people are about to disconnect [your words] and I did not comment on player's satisfaction levels with the game [what's because I'm specifically talking about Frontiers response to the all the negativity on the forum]." You do understand the difference there, I hope.

If Ed Lewis has address the community with respects to what I'm discussing then fine. I would be happy. The nice response from you would be "here is a useful link".

Now if you think I am trying to stir up discontent then fine. Report me as a troll, down vote me or whatever. However, I would think that in my time here over the last number of months I've done enough in the eyes of others warrant being given the benefit of the doubt.

A: "why is the game so empty?"
B: "because its not been released yet"
A: "oh.."

C: "why is the game so empty?"
D: "because its not been released yet"
C: "yeah but.."

Fascinating ...

Edit: that wasn't directed at the OP btw

I've looked on Twitter and the last Tweet was the 7th Nov. The Facebook feed has been updated twice since the 2nd Nov but only with what looks to be an automated "weekly top fans" posts. I've not noticed anything on the forums in quite a while (though traffic is high and I may have missed something). If Frontier have address what I've been talking about in the OP (i.e. the discontent this evident in at least part of the community) then I would genuinely like to know what it is and I'm sure others would as well. Telling me to improve my noticing skillz is not helpful. It's just disrespectful and dismissive.

Two things I've learnt from this thread so far.

1) It's encouraging that Frontier answer PMs. This I did not realise.
2) Don't step out of line unless you are OK with receiving negative rep and accusations about motivation. (Personally I'm not OK with this - and it really shouldn't bother me but it does - so I'll likely just leave this thread here.)

Can you link the part where I say they "Disconnect"? Geez, is it me or have you just misquoted me more than once. Talk about selective reading.... Speaking of nice responses, was your original one about FD apparently hiding from the world or that a response of "they're busy" won't cut it kind-of attitude. Come on, the door swings both ways here. I don't agree with the majority of "concerns" threads that I've seen, many are baseless and full of gross assumptions in assuming we have it all. Which, logic dictates if we had - we'd already have the finished game and be playing it. Yet, they persist in attempting to paint this picture of a finished, lacking product not fit to be played by the world at large and that some imaginary critique of gamers will send it to scrap heap on release.

Shok.

I believe the OP is spot on and I also think the above quote is rubbish! Who am I to say you are wrong ... I'm nobody, but Chris Roberts who is making that other game has 61,406,998 reasons why you are dead wrong.
He gets his hardcore gamer followers worked to a fever pitch by blasting his homepage with new glitzy content every week. Four or Five posts EVERY week , right in your face.... His followers then show their unwashed masses (of friends ) the fantastic videos /up coming content , developer work. Which forces those unwashed masses to change to clean underwear and then get a copy for themselves.
So, lets take a look at what the world sees when they go to elitedangerous.com ...... well it looks good......... Under the media tab... the last post was from 2 months ago!!!... and you've lost them (and their money)

I'm shocked and saddened at what I think is a lost opportunity to make this game more epic than it already is. You and I both want this game to be the most immersive , interesting , exciting , beautiful space game it can be for years to come. That will only happen if lots of people want to play it. Not shouting it from the roof tops hurts both Frontier and us , the hardcore gamer who will be playing for a long time.

---Peace Out---

What was the release date of that game again, and how big was the galaxy, I forget. I know already where my heart is. And for all them 61,406,998 reasons, it's still going to be an instanced game. What makes you believe I'm not on the alpha/beta for that one also.

Shok.

Lots of people's wishful thinking won't make it so. It will only happen if the developers have the talent, dedication and opportunity to build it. They have those things, and they are building it.

About the release date -- the far future last I heard --- yes it burns my assets too. Not only is their's small (giggle) they have shrunken the distances between things! Yes Yes I agree
It's the lost opportunity to engage more people and keep them chomping at the bit to play this game that I think hurts everybody...

I agree with this and here's why. When you leave a game (EvE) you played for a long time. You look for something to fill that void. I can tell you here and now. When the pvp'ers from EvE get their teeth into Elite Dangerous and it's combat with track ir or occulus or whatever tracking they decide on. It will blow them away. This is what many of us always craved for in EvE. It's like ringing the dinner bell to sharks in dinner jackets. I doubt many will wait for years in the development of another said space game (RSI). Don't get me wrong, I hope it succeeds. People on the other hand, won't wait that long. There's already live streams and videos on youtube and all over the place of Elite Dangerous beta, they can see for themselves what it can offer. This is where the masses hang out and this is where they will see it as I did on youtube, which sent me rushing headlong to these forums thirsting for info.

Shok.
