Any real life animal keepers playing?!

2nd post in 1 day, I'm sorry! I'm sure it will be months before I think of something else to say.

I was wondering who here as been a keeper for any of the planet zoo species?
Or has had some kind of hands on working experience with the species. feel free to keep the name of the place anonymous if you wish!
I have had quite a bit of keeping experience in the past, & interested to hear who else has,

I worked for a long time in pinniped conservation, so never in places where they had to perform. grey seals, harbour seals, African fur seal, Californian seal lions and southern/Patagonian sea lion I have had hands on experience with. The African fur seal I think was my favourite pinniped to spend time with. Do you have a favourite pinniped?! X🤗

I’m jealous you worked with African lions. They are my favorite animal and imo the most beautiful animal in the world with tigers being a very close second.

I do often wonder when visiting my local zoo if the zoo staff is aware of this awesome game. I think anyone involved in zoos would be blown away by this amazing game.

Not a keeper but an educator
Right now I educate people on Gray Seals and other non PZ animals.
I know these aren’t in game but I used to educate people on:
Steller sea lions
Ring seals
Spotted seals
Puffins and Various sea birds
Giant pacific octopus
Variety of fish
Wow! That's awesome. Ive done a mix of keeping and educating, and mostly on grey seals too! Which is your favourite talk that you do? Thanks for your comment fellow seal person! :)

Lovely lion photo!! Stunning image. I'd take a guess that most real life zoo keepers probably don't play video games, they tend to channel their nerdiness into the job, especially if they keep animals at home. But you never know! Planet zoo is very appealing for creativity I think, why do you play? What's your favourite thing to do on planet zoo? :)

I play because I love zoos and animals plus I’ve been waiting for a modern zoo game to come out since the zt2 days. I usually play sandbox with mostly realism in mind.

Nice, that's awesome. How good is planet zoo compared to the zoo tycoon days 😆 PZ is just so well made. I hope you get to meet some lions one day! In a safe way of course!

If I remember correctly when they did the conservation pack livestream with Highland Wildlife Park they said there were keepers who played and were fans of the game.

There was a member here for a little while that actually worked at my local zoo, the Houston Zoo. I don't remember their username, though. It's been a while

I'm not a keeper but used to be an educator in an Aquarium - in that role I did a bit of kepper stuff with lots of sharks, fish, turtles, rays, lizards, cuttlefish etc. but not much that's in PZ, other than King Penguins, which I sometimes did food prep for and got to feed a few times. Also in that role i got to do a little bit of stuff at another aquarium I was visiting (that belonged to the same group) which included some work with short clawed otters and (not in the game) Australian fur seals. I am now a researcher. Mostly I don't do work on anything that's in game (used to be mostly small lizards, now mostly on invertebrates) but there's a strong chance I might get to work on platypus, with a zoo, fairly soon (super excited!). I know that @NZFanatic has done some keeping too.

I'd go with any of them🤪. No, seriously, maybe a walrus? I like their tusks

Way different. ZT2 is so much simpler than PZ, but they're both fun in their own way
You're so right, when I first got pz I was blown away by how complex it is compared to zt. Walrus is also a great choice, remarkable animals.

That's really cool!

Amazing!!! What an interesting job you had. That's really cool that you got to have lots of hands on experience at the aquarium whilst working on the education team. Thanks for your response it is appreciated! Love that you've worked with fur seals, I worked with south African fur seals, they are really quite amazing. As an educator I imagine you rotated roles in your job, what was your favourite animal to talk about? :)

Unfortunately, I'm not a keeper, but I've been working at the Bronx Zoo in New York City for six years, for the last two of them, I've been a tour guide and conduct exhibit tours on a private cart throughout the park - fun fact, yes, you CAN know too much about ocellated turkeys!
I'm a performer by trade (voice acting, stand-up comedy, children's theatre, etc) so it's a pretty perfect day job.
I do work with animals as a host of ambassador programs, while I don't handle the animals directly, I assist the keepers with classroom management, rule enforcement and live interpretation (fancy word for animal facts).
I also manage giraffe feedings, and both rhino and camel interactive experiences.
So everyday, I share a room with cheetahs, penguins, sloths, fennec foxes, porcupines, a warthog, and a VERY friendly Southern ground hornbill!
I also do the puppet shows!!

I was a volunteer keeper for 6 years when I was a teen. I worked in the Ramat Gan Safari Zoo in Israel.

Animals in the game I worked with:
  • African penguin
  • Capuchin
  • Chimpanzee
  • Egyptian fruit bat (they are cute but very messy)
  • Gorilla
  • Gray wolf
  • Mandrill
  • Orangutan
  • Painted wolf
  • Red kangaroo
  • Red ruffed Lemur
  • Ring tailed Lemur
  • Siamang
  • Southern Cassowary
  • Tiger (Sumatran)

And there are many more animals which overlap but I didn't get to meaningfully work with.
