Alec's guide to "interesting" colonisation systems and stations.

I was directed here from a video by The Buur Pit, and I thought I'd share one of my systems: HIP 20521

There's a good variety of interesting places; the ones that caught my attention originally was the gas giant moons having their own moon systems. If anyone would like to visit here are some of the sights:
  • Two close orbiting planets near the entry star (one has a surface temperature of 11,020 Kelvin)
  • Four brown dwarfs orbiting the primary star (Y, T Class)
  • Two sets of Gas Giant moons with their own orbiting moons
  • A Water World/Class Y Brown Dwarf Binary orbiting close enough for the ring system to be constantly visible from both
  • Multiple landable bodies with active of volcanism Got Volcanism And Geologic Features Mixed Up
  • At least one of every Resource Extraction Site type.

Might I suggest people put images in spoilers, as the format of some of the recent ones is making the thread very awkward to load due to how slowly they load in.
I would prefer not I think. Since a large part of this forum thread is about seeing why the various places are so special, having to constantly open spoilers would get kinda annoying. It's a bit like the Stellar Screenshots thread I guess, do you have similar problems with that?. If people can be a bit careful about not posting ultra high resolution images tho' it ought to help a bit.

Hi, Alec. On the most recent episode of Lave Radio you mentioned that you were interested in hearing about stations with different livery, and I recalled Aberdeen, a quad noob-hammer Coriolis in Col 285 Sector JE-E b13-0. It's the closest place to pick up tritium when I'm loading up colonistion commodities at 34 Omicron Cephei. As well as being named after my home city, Aberdeen is memorably decked out in, I'm going to say chrome and copper? Very steampunk.

I visited it this morning.

It's similar to Rita Fey's General store I think (which is already on the list). I'll add this one too but I think that's enough copper/grey Coriolis stations now unless anyone has something exceptional.

As you might guess from the name, the entire system is being built up as a memorial to a friend. Some of you may recognize the name from other communities too, he was fairly well known in at least one. Every single station built is renamed to reflect a member of his family, a close friend, a character he wrote, or a location in one of the stories he wrote. At least the ones that aren't copyrighted and likely to get me in trouble if I used their names.

One of the surface stations even has one of the largest supplies of CMM composites. (Used to be the largest supply within 500ly but colonization marches on~)

Only a few slots remain to fill, but all of them, names included, are planned out already. Taking a break till the Panther Clipper comes out.~

Also of note is that every station (with one exception that will soon be remedied) has an ARX skin applied. I'll get a list soon but am not in game atm.
My second trip of the day. Spent quite a while here as there's a lot to see.

I must say I'm incredibly impressed with the amount of work that's gone into this system, you guys must have hauled some serious steel to get this lot built!

No the screenshots threads can be a little slow at times but not as bad as the previous page in this thread, perhaps it was all the animated images. When I followed a like to my post yesterday on my iPad it pretty much crashed it.

The only thread that has caused similar issues was the one where FDev Xwitter posts were added to the forum.

Sul Venture in Col 285 Sector RG-A b15-7. The moon is tidally locked,so the GG is always hanging in the sky there. There's a crater just to the right and there WERE geysers, but they seem to have disappeared post-construction.

And some divine hand seems to have vandalised HIP 104477 B 2:

My final trip of the day and, as you say, the GG in the sky is a really impressive feature.

Couldn't resist going for a little drive here. Never did manage to catch up with the GG ..

.. but I did find some of your geysers!

I am slightly worried that you might have a serious snowdrift problem on this planet tho ..

.. and would urge caution when placing any future settlements down here!

This system has: all 3 asteroid station types, most orbital stations and variations, a ground station placed in the middle of 2 ravines, and for a limited time (until fixed by fdev) it has 2 orbital construction sites that cannot be landed due to constant rapid movement in normal space

… I guess it wasn’t just me who thought of finding a depression or volcano like that to stick a port into. Alas, yet to find a suitable location therefor.

I can only imagine the shenanigans if some unfriendly forces (definitely not Thargoids, no) were ever to pay some ‘attention’ to the place.

Communist Interstellar Union is proud to present a historic achievement for mankind:
The galaxy's first black-hole-powered inertia centrifuge reactor!

The main starport of 13 Andromedae (currently bearing a placeholder name until next Thursday) orbits a small black hole with an orbital period of 11 seconds. Rumours that the 4.3m people aboard the facility have been spaghettified by their proximity to the black hole could not be immediately confirmed.

One of our more persistent CMDRs managed to catch the station, and was sent flying off at 289,272 m/s, possibly setting a record for the fastest velocity ever achieved without a Frame Shift Drive.

In most instances, catching the station results in this:

It is possible to place yourself inside the station by instancing with it and self-destructing. Leaving the station is extremely difficult:

But the view is worth it if you can achieve a stable orbit:

We sat on this system for a long time waiting for the back-end fixes to unclaimable systems to fully take effect. It turns out the red 'X' was there for a reason. The system seems to be cursed with some very strange properties. Carriers jumped into the system emerge from hyperspace inside the main star, revealing the cuboid horrors within:

Screenshot_0690.jpg

We have had mixed results trying to get carriers in orbit of the other bodies. Sometimes carriers sent to the black hole emerge in the exclusion zone of the main star. Carriers sent to the neutron star also inconsistently emerge inside it.

Screenshot_0694.jpg

We had planned to build some kind of installation in the secondary colony slot and an outpost at the neutron star so we could watch the jet cones from inside the bar, but we aren't sure if it will be possible to use the facilities there once they become active and the orbital properties are correctly applied. We have not yet decided whether to raise a ticket and see if it can be fixed, or leave it as a unique destination for curious tourists and extreme thrillseekers.

Not the first. Tesla Sanctuary in HIP 41539 was the first, at least in this thread. First Orbis - perhaps. Such stations must have certainly been built elsewhere with the number of BH systems already colonised, before either of them. So, cut the communist record-setting claims propaganda.😄

Neutron star stations in the above-mentioned HIP 41539 and Vela Pulsar are fully operational, so feel free to. Another one in 3 Capricorni will be up next week.

We know how many black hole stations there are, because we checked. Unfortunately, none of those have these kind of power levels ;)
