    Accretion Disk Boost

...If it is required to boost off black holes, so much the better. It would be awesome if you needed to very precisely surf the accretion disk for JUST long enough to get your boost, and then immediately exit it, or your FSD would become so damaged it would fail and shut down, trapping you in...

PLEASE FRONTIER - I've been asking for YEARSSSSSS. Update blackholes!

...it was fdev's attempt to make black holes dangerous, and their only option was heat. But heat just doesn't make sense without an accretion disk, and they cant' seem to implement that. So the whole thing just looked ridiculous, and so it was toned way down. If only the game supported...

Please make astral phenomenon more dangerous (black holes, neutron stars, asteroid fields, etc..)

My primary gripe with ED back when I decided to quit a few years ago, was with this subject, specifically, black holes. Its the most curious phenomenon for me, but they are visually lackluster. I also find it to be visually inaccurate, not one accretion disk to be found.

    Accretion Disk Boost

I didn’t think of that. My thought process was that since our FSD operates “beyond safety limits” we would increase the safety limit I’m not sure how I feel about guaranteed damage. I’m not sure I would want to do this if my FSD was going to come out in pieces in the end. Maybe a damage that...

...sucked into the center. Why not, create a suction animation going through the different layers of the black hole, representing the madness that would be seen in free fall towards the singularity. Even if the accretion disk exists, visible or not, it should affect and heat the spaces of the ship.

So, Sagittarius A* might not be a black hole at all …

...at providing links to the articles he talks about. In this video he himself expresses caution towards the hypothesis, but it does seem to explain some of the otherwise "unsolvable problems" regarding Sag A*. Btw. Anyone playing ED knows it is a nonrotating black hole with no accretion disk ;)

So, Sagittarius A* might not be a black hole at all …

Except the representation in game is hardly compatible with how the Schwarzschild solution behaves. On the topic; With the Event horizon telescope having observed a supermassive black hole in a different galaxy directly, the most likely explanation for our own galaxy is still a supermassive...

    Black Hole vs. "Black Hole"

Black Holes update for Odyssey anyone?

Not for all, I agree. Accretion disk is supposed to be around the supermassive black holes, so probably only Sag A* and maybe the Great Annihilator.

May be an accretion disk under the ship which I would find as fantastic, so I approve this image. I would love it if FD fixed black holes to be (1) dangerous and (2) like this image. 👍

Black Holes update for Odyssey anyone?

This has been a question of mine, since late 2014/ early 2015. Where's the accretion disk? Why don't they kill you? I would think that with Interstellar having pushed the boundaries of a black hole rendering (initially simulated by a supercomputer and later polished up for the movie), some...

    Post Odyssey dreams?

For me I wanna see a rework of black holes to show their accretion disk, Ship interiors which would be a big task but has been proven to be possible, Some sort of base building maybe not on the scale of No mans sky but it would be cool to have your own little home on some random planet out in...

White Shading of B-Type Star stands for?

...with are very young in terms of the age of stars in general, so it might make sense there's still plenty of dust around from the accretion disk when the planets were formed, not enough to really obscure any stars when you are there, and maybe far enough out from the main star that you...

Black holes should kill you if you fly into them

I'm not sure how the Stellar Forge would build an accretion disk that either didn't need you to play a supercomputer or wasn't the same graphic (and size) every time. I don't mind losing data and ships either but It is true that black holes are black, space is black. So because you can't see...

    Fdev, question about black holes

This is not fully accurate. There is a black disk from which you see no light (again, assuming no accretion disk). The angular size of this disk is actually larger than what you would expect from a sphere with a radius equal to the Schwarzschild radius of the black hole exactly because of the...

New Astronomical Objects - suggestion from professional Astrophotographer

...move on. A black hole should be dangerous. If it's located in a rich feeding ground (such as the Great Annihilator) there should be an accretion disk around it with some dangerous aspects to that as well. And had to look that up since I didn't know about that and since I know about it now...

Please make astral phenomenon more dangerous (black holes, neutron stars, asteroid fields, etc..)

Space is messy, and when the vicinity of a blackhole, not only should it look more terrifying (accretion disk viewable as it devours a nearby star, but it should cause a nearby commander extreme distress, or death if too close. Asteroid fields, have rotating rocks, but no collisions between...

...just to see how things changed. I have particular interest in Black Holes. The one in Maia is small, so I didn't expect to see an accretion disk. But I feel there was a quality boost. Black Holes update for Odyssey anyone?

Spherical: Get too close -> ded. Before being too close -> increasing signs that you're getting too close (overheat, malfunctions, shaking, whatever). Polar cones (if accretion disk present): Barely visible narrow cones of nearly instant death.

    Fdev, question about black holes

Just how do you imagine seeing light absorbed? If you looked at a real black hole you would in essence see the background sky distorted plus whatever light would be emitted from the accretion disk (if it has one).

You do realize that that is pretty much what a real black hole would do apart from the accretion disk and resulting jets, right? Now, that being said, I do not know if the distortion is simulated properly in game (I doubt it based on how it looks).

    Accretion Disk Boost

...description, "Boosts the effectiveness of supercharge effects, at the cost of increased drive degredation within the jet cone. Enables Accretion Disk Boosting." Standard FSD boosting would get something like a 50% boost, at the cost of doubled FSD damage. That would mean needing to repair...

Sagittarius A*: the Super Massive Fleet Carriers Parking Lot?

    Implementation of protoplanetary disks
