...are subject to revision in the interests of interesting gameplay. The humans of the game universe are unworried by relativistic time dilation, can fly hard straight at black holes and hand in the exploration data the same afternoon, etc. It's only really a problem if you choose to make it one.

This is not about "realism" it is about a precedent that when not met would create an irritating contrast and disconnect, and about the destruction of immersion and the galaxy's believability. The biodiversity that current levels of procedural generation would be capable of creating is nowhere...

how to find which systems i've "discovered"?

Well if you are looking for that black hole system it will be in your journals and a utility to list all the black holes in the journal means you will just need to check those ones, something like EDDiscovery will let you list you black hole systems easily.

...a fun image of an "angel" in the nebula (this is completely subjective, I admit - given how the nebula works, the number of O stars and black holes, you can make it do a lot of things). You can interpret a lot of things into angels, birds, or any other winged creature. Third, there is a sort...

    Very unusual and interesting systems

Yes, a great system. You often find 3 black holes in a system, 4 is quite rare. But according to EDSM, the record is 7 in one system, in Wepooe AA-A h509. a more comprehensive page regarding records is the page of EDAstro.com

    General Very boring black holes

Black holes are delightfully weird (cool light bending effects) but a little underwhelming in Elite. We can get awfully close to them, I'm not convinced on the Schwarzschild radius calculations here. 🤨😅 Event Horizons seem to function the exact opposite to the way they do in nature, though I...

General Why Are Limpets Not Reusable?

General Why Are Limpets Not Reusable?

Fun related fact: Small trash floating around is becoming an increasingly serious problem around Earth. The stuff doesn't go away. It gets trapped in orbit, endlessly circling at crazy speeds. If you just leave it up there, it's more likely to keep orbiting forever than to actually fall. Very...

Newcomer / Intro old questions from a *new* player ( sorta late to the pilot party here ) ...

Yeah but black holes are harmless in Elite - you don't get spaghettified or wormholed, they are just a nuisance (or a visual wonder) in this game, probably less so with SCO drives now. I've never had to escape from a BH exclusion zone but I think SCOs would help there.

    The Quest To Find Raxxla

I am utterly convinced it is in the bubble, or close by. Ever since I read the foundation series a few years ago it just made me think it’s right under our noses. “Those with eyes to see” “We know where Raxxla is and why no one has found it” “A little bit obvious”

F-Devs commitment to VR - Will they let it die???

...here too. Never mind on-foot 3D, the basic game is much worse in VR than the original one. Not going into planet surfaces, hyperjumps, black holes and such, the very cockpit has enormous fault - the little scratches and stains on the glass are gone. Replaced with a glare in the corners...

    Open-Only in PP2.0?

Sure, but it's like having an interest in Black Holes. Even if you know everything about them, you still know nothing. It’s not your fault or mine, but over the years, FDEV has taken unpredictable paths, usually leading to the worst solutions (e.g., Powerplay weapon nerfs, experimental effects...

I think you forgot to include the 2 most obvious, which are the Milky Way and Andromeda. The mother of galaxies could literally be either our home galaxy or the largest galaxy visible to us. Sagittarius A* then and now

From a purely personal perspective, I don't find black holes to be very interesting in ED. Sure, I understand that they are only going to be visible either due to their lensing effects or by virtue of acquiring an accretion disk of some note. But, as someone who has had a deep lifelong...

You actually don't need the magnitude to change to triangulate the position, only the azimuth/direction. However, I agree that it is interesting especially since it is blocked by all bodies. This means lots of traffic with people circumvent them at...

How far out do you go these days for undiscovered systems?

Hi :) Tricky question. I'd say from personal experience you'd have to go about 1500Lys out from the outer edge of the bubble before undiscovered systems really show up. Some of these would be mostly part discovered systems, but you might see totally undiscovered systems, mainly those systems...

    Make black holes actually scary

Does anyone else find the death screen awfully annoying?

I could not imagine those twitch games doing that, no. But ED isn't designed around that. It includes some elements of them, but the core principle and the core audience and the funded KS are all down the sim end of simcade. (inb4 yes I know the sim has big holes in it, that is why I said...

    How to find Neutron Stars?

If you filter to show only "non-sequence stars", then it will show systems with neutron stars and black holes. Of course they are so sparse that it may still be hard to find them. You'll have to move around in the map until a dot appears.

Yeah, just one of those things where the Stellar forge sneezed while doing something. Black holes are near absolute zero in temperature, so can't really be that either (plus not looking like one).
