1.1 Download Speed

Hi all,

Just wondering why I've been trying to upgrade to 1.1 for over 5 hours now and it's only 60% there.

I've done all the usual connection tests and can find no reason other than the ED servers are to blame.

I'm in Aus and understand that I'm connecting to a UK server, but this is taking way too long considering the file size it's likely to be.

Anyone else experience similar, or live in Aus and had to wait several hours for the D/L to complete?

I'm in Singapore and the D/L speed is also woeful, 300kbps, ~5 hours to update. I did a minor check on the IP address, and it was connecting to an amazon cloud server on the east coast US, not a UK server. Ping times weren't too bad for an SG->US connection, about 210ms, but the bandwidth was dire. I'm on an otherwise healthy 250Mbps fiber.

Back in the Alpha/Beta, it used to connect to a hong kong based cloud server, and the d/l speed was very good.

At least yours is going.

Home PC = fine.
Work laptop... Gets to 30% and stops / times out.
Have uninstalled / reinstalled / deleted appdata folders... Checked firewalls, added amazon servers to exceptions, nothing being blocked.
Just times out at 30%.

No Elite for me this lunchtime :/

I am in the UK and I have made 6 try's to download since yesterday at 5.30pm GMT. Installer shows 0.20mb/s.
Have had 6 "No Data received for 10 minutes for the second time, aborting download".
I assume this is due loads of player download and hotfix they put up at the last moment.

My suggestions is quit download and restart, as this seems to help.

yes, same thing for me too.

you might have a healthy 250Mbps fiber connection but still will be a slow download.

I really think FD should do something about this.
Maybe have some mirrors up around for people outside the US or UK?

I had the same issue last night on my UK cable connection, 0-0.05mb/s ... mostly towards 0 after it hit 50-60%.
Started just after 5:15pm and took until 1:15am. I guess that the servers are struggling with the demand...

It seems like a terrible way to distribute game updates. I'm in the USA, but it only took maybe 20 minutes to get the update downloaded and ready to play, so it could be related to UK peak times, and lack of server resources (mirroring and/or bandwidth).

wheres all the people that smashed me telling me I needed to move and get a better connection when I made these comments...... I got hammered its all my dodgy connection....... but here is where I found my fix to this issue........ https://support.elitedangerous.com/kb/faq.php?id=56

To sum up in my case it is not specifcly FD that caused my slow downloads but rather the way something about their servers does not work with standard network settings in window OS's but talk to those with no issues and its because I have crap net (which yes I do but not that crap)

I try that and all other fixes I read about.
Nothing helped.

pity it has definately helped in my case I got my 1.1 in about 1/2 an hour this morning vs the 12-15 hours it used to take...... down side is I wont play until the collision bug is fixed. I have not got time to deal with insurance costs due to npc near misses. off to do other things.

Thanks for the info and advice folks. However I tried the suggestions regarding disabling firewall, check VPN, and AV software running in the background and has made no impact (also resetting the internet connection, restarting the ED launcher, and dancing a merry jig around the PC.)

Chins up, commanders. Even if you could download, you'd be well advised to not play right now. There are some nasty bugs, and you could end up exploding and losing a lot surprisingly frequently. Chalk this one up to paradoxical good luck.

13+ hours now downloading 1.1 ... looking at the progress bar I'd say 80% downloaded.

Any official response to this? There must be 1000's of players waiting extraordinary amounts of time for this update to complete. This is terrible customer service. Perhaps enough to put some people off playing it for good. Thankfully I haven't quite reached that stage yet but it's severely testing my patience.

I've always gotten weak download speeds from updates....even in beta when fewer people were around.

I'm not sure what the tie up is...I've got a fiber line on my end with none to rare problems.

For this reason, I started the download before I left for work this morning. I hope that is enough. Though, the 1.12 update happened after it started, so I guess there is another wait when I get home.

There appears to be something about the game / server setup that just hates WiFi.
I had constant disconnects and woeful download speeds for updates, despite cable broadband and a new Docsys 3 modem / router. Then I pulled out the old modem from the box I'd thrown it in, connected it to my game PC via ethernet and it's been a night and day difference. 1.1 downloaded in ~ 20 mins and I've not had a single disconnect since.

Hmm, that makes me think it is probably distributed across several mirrors. Probably for each geograpic region.

Perhaps the mirror I'm connecting to is slow as all get out. I've never seen better than 5MBs and I regularly quadruple that and more when downloading from Netflix or Steam.

This is after probably 5 hours time thus far. Broken up over two nights so far. Downloading here in Brisbane, Australia. No idea what CDN I'm connected to or anything like that.

weird, it downloaded in about 15 mins for me, but I am in US and I probably wasn't downloading it when everyone else was hammering at it.
