1.2 had nothing for us, neither did 1.3. Yay , now we have 1.4, because it has...

...nothing for us explorers.
99% of the time Wings has nothing for explorers(1.2)
100% of the time Power Play has nothing for explorers.(1.3)
CQC ? I reckon 100% on that too ! (1.4)
Ok, I lie. FD did give us a huge "galactic map" search bug , that they introduced in 1.2(and still not fixed), and the "First Discovered by..." fiasco

Yes ! I know they were busy with the Mac release in May and the Xbox release in June !!!
And Yes I know we have been promised :
...Boarding other ships
...Exploration outside of ship
...FPS
...Multi-Crew ships
...Thargoids
...Seamless planetary landing
...Spacewalking
...Walking around ships
...Walking in space stations

I haven't played for 2 months, but I will wait patiently for more exploration content before the end of this year, because I love this game :)
Long Live ED !!!
(just venting, feeling better now :D )

Have to agree, took off exploring pretty 1.2 still out exploring. No reason to return. Also multiple commander slots, 3 I believe.

Yes I agree with your OP. The anticipation of waiting for all the planned features especially the planetary landings are what keep me interested. That and the Thargoids. I still like the excitement of entering that "next unexplored system" and the anticipation of what it might have in it. I have found that most planets look very interesting up close, even the Ice planets.

I too await some Exploration lurve.

But do note that 1.4 is not the Big Announcement for Gamescom - there is speculation that this could be the start of planetary landings. Personally I'm not holding my breath, but we'll know for sure in a few weeks time.

Sad to see that a good player like you left ED for such a long time because they "dont care". But you are not alone. It seems more and more that ED is trying to make a good job but it looks a bit unprofessional. I hope also that it will gets better and give them a chance. Another one ... ;)

There's a thread dedicated to raising awareness to explorers that we won't get what we want unless we cajole FD for it. They are very responsive to pestering, that's a fact. Go to the dev updates, the patch notes, the discussion and suggestion forums and pester pester pester and we will eventually get it.

Deep down I KNOW FD secretly want to work in it the most, it is their baby after all. Its just the combatants and story lovers seem to be much more vocal and they want to appear good to their funders and players. Let's give them the excuse they need :)

Exploration needs more love, that is definite. It's the part of the game I enjoy the most. A little combat here and there is fine, but it's not as interesting to me hence I've not picked up the XBONE version.

There is so much they could do for us, lots of ideas out there already.

Last I heard the AI is really nasty too now. No reason to return to "civilisation".
Not nasty, a little smarter perhaps. And maybe if you're in a defenseless ship you have reason to fear, but I still find combat against AI pretty ez.

In my Vultures ;)

But I am flying with mouse and keyboard on an old computer with a crap internet connection. So basically, don't be too afraid.

I think that you'll be still waiting & getting more impatient in a years time.

The game is great, don't get me wrong, I love it, but atm FD are still trying to pull in as many punters as they can. As long as they're doing this then there will be little for us Explorers to be excited about.

Pewpewpew is what makes the money in nearly all successful games, 'if it moves - blast it to bits' sells & that's the way of the world.

At least we've been given a tiny part of the game to 'hide' in while the rest of the community blow each other up & cheat.

I'm no pewpew fanboy, used to be in my younger days, played the lot from 'Space Invaders' through 'Elite 84' 'Dungeon Master' 'Command & Conquer' the list is massive what iv been playing over the years.
Now Im getting on in life & want to chill & relax in my spare time.

This why i love this game, cos you can wander around aimlessly if you want with little or no interaction.

But our gaming style won't sell the units to the younger 'pewpew kiddies' & FD know this.

Iv twice asked the question on the 'Answers from the Devs' thread, if theyve taken the Exploration side of the game as far as they want to. Iv yet to get an answer, but will continue to ask until i get a reply.

I struggle to see how FD can do anything Exploring other than little tweaks & fixes here & there. All future developments will continue to be heavily biased to the 'pewpewpew' to continue to sell those units.
Planetary Landings, if I understand is to be a separate purchase, not a free update. It will be a 'pewpew on the ground' format - to keep the punters happy.

"Nothing to see here" I'm afraid is the cry from the the neglected Explorers in Elite: Dangerous, while the 'pewpew' kiddies demand that we take part in their stupid gamestyle of killing stuff!!

That's my opinion of how I see Elite going forward.

Like gooddoc, I too have asked the devs via various threads if they have plans to further develop exploration. So far they've not responded once.

The thing is, I don't think it's possible for the stellar forge to do the kind of things we'd like it to. It would probably need a major overhaul. This makes me sad.

I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Brookes's response from last December still applies https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=84133&p=1339834&viewfull=1#post1339834

FWIW, I don't believe that ED exploring can ever be "exploring" without a significant rewrite and restart. It will just be a bit more varied space tourism: travel somewhere, look in awe, travel home. That's fun for a while but I can't see it having the sort of long term appeal required for a game which the devs have a 10 year plan for.

It's fair to say that recent updates have been heavily combat oriented.
What I would love to see is a collection of all the current in-game features sorted by the in-game 'role' that they appease.
Perhaps in a bar chart, to see where the past focus has been and what might get improved on next.

My fellow explorers,
I was just venting and throwing my toys out of the pram in a playful way, but WOW ! Not a single troll, and so much support(and rep too!)
Your replies are very touching and mature, I applaud all of you

It's the explorer community that helps keeps my ED enthusiasm alive. I don't think I've ever come across a single explorer that I don't have lots of respect for.

Maybe it's simply because we don't play the game for KILL KILL KILL, or to make Mega profits in 10 minutes of play.

That's how I see it too unfortunately, I'll keep at it though as I still love the game just want a bit more to the exploring side but if No Man's Sky lives up to expectations then I can't see ED getting a look in once it's released

...nothing for us explorers.
I'll add my support for more enhancements/gameplay/features/fixes for explorers.
And I do think FD will come up trumps. (When is the big question, though...)
Presumably planetary landings would be the big one for the explorer community.

The more support the better! ;) . I might be in a minority here, but honestly, for me planetary landings is not something I'm interested in. I want to see more stuff between the stars. I want to see some science fiction!

In this matter, we belong to the same minority. :)
