1.3.02 Using 0.6.0.0 Oculus drivers in direct mode was the best experience I've had in this game

It ran at 60FPS, and I even was able to bring up my graphics settings from Low to Medium and keep that frame rate. All the screens were clear and it worked SO good. Should've played as long as I could while it was available.

Unfortunately, 1.3.03 is officially worse than any experience I had back in even the 0.4.x.x driver days. When I was running .02 in direct mode, I got a warning about direct mode not being supported, but everything was AWESOME. In .03 the error has teeth, I see my screen flash and flicker, lines draw in random places, and my framerate went down from 60 to 17.

I managed to get performance to the point of playable (Sub 60, and chunky in combat) after downgrading to 0.5.0.1, turning off direct mode, and then switching from mirroring to extended desktop and switching the rift to secondary so that the SDK can detect it. However the resolution is off, like the problem some of the early PowerPlay betas had.

Frontier, I know you can do it. You have the technology. You've done it before. 1.3.02 was AMAZING. Just, find what buttons got pressed or what files got checked in and UNCHECK THEM. Roll something back. Heck, put up a beta server that just runs 1.3.02 forever or something, till you figure it out. I love this game, and it's so painful to play it right now, especially after seeing how great it can be.

Thanks,
Max

Running DK1 on a Macbook Pro Mid 2012

I wish it were that simple. The 0.6 runtime has never worked on my system. Direct mode has never been anything but awful on my system. 1.3.03 works a charm on my set up right now but I did have to tweak a few settings*

* I turned DOWN oculus quality to 50%, and enabled 1.5x DSR in-game. The end result is similar to 100% oculus quality but smoother.

Thats how they can run it, it is a DK1, there is zero change to how it operates from previous runtimes. 0.6 is for the DK2, and getting devs to get things ready for the CV1.

When they use it, it is running in legacy mode for DK1 operation

None of this applies to the code that runs positional tracking and code for the DK2 and CV1

Are you all installing directly over the previous runtime or are you deleting everything prior to the new install? What are your computer specs?

I can get the DK2 to work with 0.6 in direct mode - but there is no advantage in doing so. There is more judder and lag at equivalent settings than I use for 0.5. with extended mode. This is with a 980 GTX.

Don't waste your time guys until direct mode with 0.6 is supported officially.

Actually, I had totally assumed that was the case myself, but as of the 0.6.0.0 runtime, direct mode is ACTUALLY supported by DK1 (for the first time). It's legit too, it doesn't show up in the monitor settings and turns the screen off unless invoked by a game, and doesn't require a window to be in a specific position; it's directly feeding data.

Dk1and 0.6 runtime in direct mode. Okay..., plz teach me ur magic.

I don't recommend it as of the latest patch, but you can try it yourself. All you have to do is hook up your DK1, install the latest 0.6.0.0 runtime, and select direct mode. Then fire up Elite. That being said, it's horrible now (You'll see what I mean) but it was INCREDIBLE just before the latest patch.

For the record, 0.6.0.0 is the first version I've seen with direct mode support for DK1, and I NEVER would've guessed that was even a thing that would be possible (I am an Oculus software developer and I didn't even know they were working on it). No firmware update was required.

I am going to try that tonight and see if I can at least salvage something out of the game for now. Appreciate the info!
