1.3 - Is it safe to resume exploration

Hi all,

I'm currently 39kylies out from civilisation, and haven't had time to fire up E:D since 1.3 went live.

Now I'm wanting to slowly head my way back home and sell off my exploration data, but I'm reading quite a few horror stories of explorers out of populated space who are having all kinds of serious errors, and I've been struggling with the Hyperspace Black Screen of Doom anyway for a few weeks.

Would any of you recommend firing 1.3 up now and hoping that all is well, or wait for some of the issues to be patched out? I also noticed that the server status still reports 'Issues Detected' which is a bit off-putting to say the least...

Fire it up, but, plot manually to prevent losing your Commander data and run in Solo. I had less server crashes in solo compared to open.

The server status seems to be updated manually whenever someone sees the post-it note stuck to the inside of the server rack, that says "REMEMBER 2 UPD SRV STATUS!". So don't pay any mind to that.

The new version has been fairly stable for me in itself, but there's been two or three server outages since the update.

Unfortunately the ops guys started playing "how far can the A/C suck a piece of paper across the Server Room?" game and this got used.

It explains all the disconnects as no one has noticed and the Servers keep hitting thermal shutdown as the A/C intake is blocked with bog-roll and paper cups.

Seeing as the disconnections have been causing Canopy damage to so many, I wouldn't be flying in the black right now. Maybe paranoid, but its better than rage quit, and I would fully expect an update every day for a few days, 1.3 was SO bad

Yeah, I would use the current galaxy with caution. The GalMap is a little flaky, especially within 10k of Sag A* and not just with route plotting. Also I have seen a couple of stories of people not being able to log back on (problem loading CMDR data message) and developer intervention to teleport back to a station being the only solution. I saw the same message a couple of times yesterday but a client restart solved it for me.

Connection errors were the most irritating for me - I had 18 in 2 hours yesterday :(

Based on previous release cycles I expect we will get an update or 2 very soon

EDIT: ah, got half ninja'd by a few people there...

I'm waiting till the servers are sorted.

I didn't get kicked out too much (probably 1 in every 6 or 7 jumps) but I was solo and single jump plotting. I managed 83 systems yesterday, but by the end the frequency of disconnects increased. 2500 systems on this trip scanned, 18KLy out (on my way back now) and I don't want to risk face-planting a star. I've parked up 10,000Ls away from any bodies and I've broken out the beef and tomato Pot Noodle I was saving for the return journey.

Just be aware of this bug : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=153034

Fly safe. I can't fly right now at all. ;)

See - this is exactly the kind of thing that bothers me. The fact is I want to make my way back to civilisation the long way, if I got teleported back I would be somewhat aggrieved to say the least, I'm hoping for a 4 or 5 week journey, attempting to travel about 10kylies a week. I'm hoping that by the time I get back I might just about have explored enough to hit Elite and I'm hoping to use my data to buy my way into as many system permits as possible!

Thanks, Traveller_GG, that made me laugh out loud!

Whiterose, this might just be it - I've found less Black Screen crashes in solo anyway (although it means I have no chance of ever meeting another cmdr out in the depths of the galaxy :-( ) and manual pathfinding is perfect for where I am in the galaxy right now (basically on the far left hand side of the galaxy and about 1kylie "north" from populated space).

Thanks guys. As I am at work today anyway (honest) I can't play until late evening as it is. Maybe by then a fix might be incoming, if not I think I'll leave it a bit longer before heading back to the black...

So there's some reports of issues but people rarely post saying everything is fine.

I've just completed 4 trips with a total of around 40 jumps and things were fine. I'm between the Triffid and Eagle Nebulas so systems are thick but not as dense as the core. This is the first time I've started the game client since the 1.3 update. I'm also on a windows 7 machine.

Reading this though, I may check the forums before continuing tomorrow.

Cmdr Unifex.

I've been locked out since Friday night, but at the 3rd time of trying my restored save seems to be working fine this morning. I've made about 30 jumps with no problems.

I'll probably wait for the first fix patch(es) before I continue my exploration. During hour and half yesterday I had one disconnect, but lots of second scans. Server issues, server issues...

I'd figure the traffic between clients and the server has rised significantly due to the Power Play features.

Had load of disconnects during jump, dual scans, long landing stars loads and double honks last night. Since it was peak hours and first weekend after PP I wasn't that surprised or annoyed, it was as expected.

So you've already eaten the Pedigree Chum then? Desperate times, desperate times....

I'm killing Yetis in FarCry 4 at the moment and am looking at Fallout 3 with envious eyes. I'd much rather be looking for weird and interesting systems though but at least I can play those :(
