1.4 Beta

The good:

  • CQC - very fun but spawning out of the ship when dying is no good (Fixed in update Build#2)

The bad:
  • Mouse Widget point is now on the HUD level which makes me feel cross eyed - i do not like that and had to disable it
  • Body and near range Seat elements are rendered in low resolution textures when I SC around the vicinity of planets - argh this is no good seems to be some FPS optimization which does not feel well on the Rift

What rift related stuff did you find?

CQC will be a lot of fun when that respawn in space bug is fixed, what I found in the main game, open play, was mainly bad tracking fps shimmering at random times during play, didn't play for long but those have been the main two things for me up to now..

CQC: It was fun as long as it lastet! I hope they'll fix it in short time...

Haven't played that much till now, but I saw some other bugs, like the windows-cursor appearing ingame... well, it's a beta and I'm glad I'm allowed to test it!

Yep, very annoying the rift is busted in cqc. Also noticed I couldn't exit some screens. Didn't have any cursor issues though...apart from not having a cursor.

Frame rates are up for me in stations. CQC is going to be amazing but the level of situational awareness the rift gives you feels almost like cheating!

CQC respawn is hilarious. My view got attached to the back of another player's ship and as he was flying about shooting stuff I could see my self occasionally meandering about in the background, firing at nothing.

Had a crack in open (usually stick to solo) and generally found everything extremely smooth and looking sharp and lovely. Very impressed.

Edit - oh and very impressed with the cqc 'presentation' lovely floaty menus etc. Don t think it's for me really; I want to gawk at stuff and that kind of increases the risk of getting blown up.

In main game the circle with name of destination around my nav target has vanished. At first I thought it was a Beta thing that meant I could not SC or H-Jump. Then I found that I still could and had to use the compass and speed indicator to judge my course and set speeds carefully. Is this working as intended or will we get back the HUD names of Nav targets? Do you have the same issue?

Didn't happen for me

No problem now it's back after I restarted. It must be the slow indexing. That explains why I could not target enemies in CQC also and the coms were not working.
I gotta admit, it rather made it more real and such a challenge as there was no countdown to 7 to hit 3/4 throttle. Cool but way too hard as you could not see Stations clearly. Just as a star that moved around slightly. Damned hard! They should bring in this once you achieve ELITE Status seriously!

argghhh how did that re-spawn bug pass the release candidate! come on fdevs stop teasing us with cqc VR awesomeness then taking it away
although it does make that first life you get all the more fun and precious managed to take 3 down in a deathmatch a few mins ago before they got me lol :D

cqc was pretty damn fun. played a deathmatch or two, and didn't have any problems. went to regular, to look at the new ships, they weren't at the station I was at. so jumped to a different system. not there. jumped to another, and there they were.

One thing I actually had to go back and do was jump to a completely random system. And then I realized what was bugging me. Every time I jumped, I showed up facing the star, but I was at zero throttle. Granted, I always held throttle up and skimmed the star to fuel scoop and align my destination/next jump, but that was just habit. I jumped to 3 different systems, full throttle, and when I hit on the star I was barely moving as if I had throttled to null before I jumped.

Yeah, I can see that as an improvement, never been to a neutron star or black hole myself, but I'm guessing it would save my ass. But I always love jumping into a system, and turning/bobbing to get to my next heading or set up scooping. The whole. 'jump in and sit there while you figure out what to do while your at zero speed' kinda defeats the purpose of the sounds and sights of jumping to a new system for me.

Maybe it was just me. Only recently started playing again after a forced 6ish month hiatus, but haven't seen anything about this on the forums, or I just missed it when I searched the beta posts. But in the live game, I'm still running full speed into the star after a jump, and in the beta I'm not.

(edit) sorry, didn't realize where the thread was, I just thought it was talking about beta in general. My post has nothing to do with VR, asides the lack of any problems so far. I've been gone for a while.

I immediately noticed an improvement in frame rate across the board, although it is still inconsistent. I was able to bump up the OR quality slider about 25%, whilst keeping 1.5 DSR and every else on top setting. This is on a GTX 970

CQC seems fun, but basically unplayable when you keep getting respawned outside of your ship. Is there any way to recover from this ?

A bit disappointed to not see any general improvements to planet or ring shaders. C'mon, these need a tweak (especially the rings).

The center point dot in the HUD is now at the same apparent depth as the canopy glass, instead of infinite distance. This means I see a double image when I'm looking out of the window. Makes me feel cross eyed....

If this is with the Oculus Rift then it should be fixed in the next beta release.

Michael

Nice! CQC was so intense in the rift! Had a nice kill inside a station, after a Player tryed to hide in there! The ship feels so beautifull fast inside the small tunnels! I can't wait to play it again, but I don't want to log out everytime I got killed... not good for servers, so I'm impatiently waiting!

I can confirm the CQC issue of not respawning into ship is now fixed in the beta build #2

I am officially loving CQC :)
ED was always imo the best example I have of VR done well, but CQC takes it to the next level.

it is also an unarguable advantage. All the fiddly stuff like the map is stripped out and all is left is the incredible sense of scale and feel for your surroundings.

The Rift gives such an advantage, it's almost like cheating ! I must have played 6 or so games last night against 5 or 6 opponents, and won all but 1 of them :D. The ability to keep your eyes on an enemy as they pass you is invaluable.

It also helps, I think, that most Rift users are probably also using a HOTAS setup. Killer combo !

I must be doing something wrong, or I'm horrible at this, or both! I barely defeated anyone, my shields disappear right away even at 4 pips, and it seems to take forever to make a dent in anyone else's shields. It probably doesn't help that I didn't try and make any adjustments to fire groups, loadout, etc.....maybe?
In the last group I was at lvl 2 and the rest were at 5 or 6. I guess I need
