1.4 FSDI

Not sure if this is a bug or not. Just seeing if I misunderstand something.

Last night, I slipped in behind an Eagle (Mission target) 5 ls away. FSD indicator on HUD was dimmed with FSD INTERDICTOR - OUT OF RANGE as the message.

He pulled away from me in a straight line out to 750'is ls, I reeled him in slowly and at 125 ls the FSDI turned blue and I grabbed him.

Not sure why I couldn't do that with him a lot closer. He never deviated from a straight line course from before I got behind him to using the FSDI. Bug or did I not do something correctly?

I've noticed that too...its based on your speed as well. If you're going slowly (just into supercruise) you're not going fast enough to grab a ship, so you have to speed up to catch them.

I may be totally wrong but I *think* in order to establish tether you have to match the target's speed, or be faster. I suspect that at those 5 Ls, the Eagleboy was pulling away far too quickly and you simply caught up in terms of speed later on.

I was in supercruise already, hunting for this target. The assassination tgt was a Python with Eagle and Sidey in tow as a Wing. I decided to take down the Eagle first before the others showed up. Spotted him at 500 ls, closed and slipped in behind him at 5 ls. The Eagles speed was about the same as mine and the ls counter went up slowly after I got in behind.

This may be a pooling of ignorance, but interdiction is based on your distance from the target, however this distance scales with your speed and your targets speed. It is not necessary to be going the same speed, though if there's a significant difference in speed, the window for interdiction is very small.

I have be in front of target, while only traveling at the minimum super cruise speed of 30 km/s, turned to face the same direction as my target and waited for them to pass me by at which point I begin the interdiction (successfully). When this happens, despite not accelerating, my speed will jump, sometimes drastically (highest I've gotten to from 30 km/s is 12c). I have also been a little off in my timing and miss the interdiction window, at which point I have to chase them.

I think the interdiction mechanic is also influenced by gravity wells (which would stand to reason), but I have not worked out how (yet, though my theory is a gravity well restricts the reach of your interdiction module).

I also think that all the scaling involved is logarithmic. I believe A range interdiction modules are effective on ships within the first two rings on your scope, B range within the first ring. If anyone else has a different take, I'd like to hear it.

Not sure about this but I think the interdictor has lower range near to gravitational fields. So if you were near a planet or star first that might explain why your range was limited.

If you are close to a planet or other massive body this will slow you down. Since the Eagle was in front of you he will have been further away from the planet letting him accelerate faster than you could. The difference in speed meant that you couldn't interdict. Usually NPCs travel from one massive body to another. As a ship approaches a massive body it will drop in speed. So you will have been going faster than the Eagle at that point allowing you to close the gap and letting the FSI engage. I don't think this is a bug.
