1.5 - X52 Joystick doesn't work

The X52 is buggy as all get out. Make sure you are running the control panel software in the background. The one that lets you test all the button functions. My x52 needs this to be running or half the buttons won't even work. It will occasionally crash too causing the joystick to be unresponsive, and then I need to restart it. Just FYI. Hope this helps!

hi guys,i got my x52 pro set up last night, set up the drivers then plugged in the hotas, then downloaded the software,i didn't have it running, butn all workied in ED apart from the down direction on my throttles hat...had to press it hard or a couple of times for input to happen,i will test tonight with the software running...

I have to say the pro feels really really nice.......also Ziljan you seem pretty knowledgable on Saitek...is the screen (on the throttle) used to good effect in ED?.what can I actually do with it?

any response appreciated my good sirs

You shouldn't have to press hard for an input to register. If this problem persists, I would suggest you return the joystick if you can. Some of them are just duds. After using mine for about 600 hours it began having connection problems, and that's when having the software open at all times became necessary. Before this, I only needed to have the software open to make sure that the inputs stayed centered and didn't drift during play, but it wasn't necessary. Now I can't play the game unless the software is running, and like I said it crashes about 1-2 times per hour.

Honestly, if I could go back in time, I would probably get a CH product instead. They have a much record for reliability and accuracy. But my 5 month old Saitek still works well enough that spending another 300+ dollars a hotas + pedal setup seems a bit excessive, so I am going to keep using the x52 pro until it finally breaks on me... which I am almost certain it will do before 2.1 goes live in 2016. It's not all bad though. There are several functions on it that the CH lineup doesn't cover (and vis versa), and I have really gotten used to the ease with which I can target subsystems. ;)

As for the throttle MFD, I only use it to tell local time while in game, and I dial down the brightness so it doesn't blind or distract me in combat. The buttons on it might be mappable, but I haven't tested it because I like to keep my hands on the hotas itself as much as possible.

My latest set of Saitek problems are hilarious. I'm gobsmacked that a company with such terrible quality control is a market leader.

I don't believe the MFD buttons are remappable. They don't have a column in the programming software, so chances are they're not.

cheers mate

I don't thi9nk I have a dud,as I get the sound that its being pressed.....ill try with the program running, and also use the pre set x52 option, instead of binding my own,and see if that helps.

im not quite at panic mode lol......still the lights look pretty ha ha

My X52 pro has been acting a bit weird since the new launcher. It went through a phase of re-setting on a loop, which it seems to have stopped on it's own.
Now i have to USB it straight to the PC, since when it's on the monitor USB it no longer works. Oddly all the lights apart from the screen on the throttle are on, but it still doesn't work.

It also developed a clunk half way through the throttle, and i had to take it apart and remove the little plastic piece that gives it the 75% "stiff" zone. Bit annoying, since that was ideal for setting throttle in SuperCruise without looking down.

So after months of thinking all the complaints about X52 pro's were just ham fisted ruffians, i can consider myself corrected.

I can only get one of the buttons below the MFD to map - the left scroll-click button. I have it set to silent running.

In many ways (hardware QC issues notwithstanding), I think the issues with the X52 Pro aren't really Saitek's fault - the stick was designed and put into production well before the USB3.0 spec was finalized, and the stick firmware can't be upgraded. The vast majority of issues with the X52 are related to both that and Microsoft's decision to deprecate DirectInput in favor of Xinput from Win8 onwards. Xinoput works for MS as it allows them to standardize controls over the Xbox and Windows platforms. The problem is that it reduces the number of axes available to controllers, and accounts for 12 digital buttons.

DirectInput allowed 128 buttons, iirc.

Then there's driver signing too.

With old tech like the X52 Pro, I'm not surprised that there are problems. With the renewed interest in flight-model games, perhaps Saitek might see money in a redesigned and more flexible controller.
