Horizons (1) Meta-Alloy is the Required Price of Admission to Work with Felicity Farseer! (HELP!!!)

[sad]

I should have known that the primary Engineer I wanted to work with first is asking for this Illusive commodity before I can work on upgrading my Python's FSD drive's jump range.

Okay guys! I need some serious HELP here! I've read about the source of this material so I know where it comes from, but I have absolutely NO IDEA "WHERE" to even start looking for this stuff! At least she is only asking for (1) unit, but one may as well be 100 at this point since I haven't the slightest clue as to how to go about getting my hands on some of this Meta-Alloy! :(

I looked on all my third party commodity/trading websites and can only find SELL locations. Apparently you can't buy these anywhere, including stations who deal in this material the most? What is up with that?

So... Are there any Meta-Alloy experts out there that can provide me with a crash course on the most efficient method of locating 1 unit on Meta-Alloy? To be brutally honest... I'm far more interested in voyaging out to the Deciat system tonight and working towards upgrading my Python's FSD than spending my long awaited introductory 2.1 session on 400 Ly fetch quest!

In a ship that can barely hit 18 Ly empty! [cry]

Hey! I am not opposed to rolling up my sleeves and getting my Fuel Scoop dirty! But just not tonight! Was hoping to turn my journey out to Farseer's kind of a sight seeing road trip at the same time, thus my reluctance to get mired in what looks awfully similar to a 40+ jump night of tedium!

I'm currently docked at Thome Gateway in the HIP 16607 System, which is 156 Ly away from Farseer's base of operations. Any help, advice, short list of commodity brokers dealing in the sale of Meta-Alloys would be MOST appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I am thoroughly enjoying all the new layouts/UIs in the 2.1 update! Haven't had much time to fly around yet, but I did have a look into the redesigned OPTIONS/Settings section and liked what I saw there! They appear to have added some additional settings options in the GRAPHICS section which I am hoping will grant me additional management options for optimizing the game's FSP and overall performance with my GTX 980ti GPU and 6700k CPU.

Well sir, CMDR Lancer and I have checked out a few documented Barnacle sites, and no dice.     DAVID????? Why are they all destroyed?

....ok end rant - there must be a reason......

WHOA! Are you serious? :O You mean that someone has been systematically going around destroying the few sources of this rare commodity! Say it ain't so Joe! ;)

As I said in my opening headline.... FD has decided to make Metal-Alloys our Golden Ticket for ANY FSD upgrades going in to 2.1! If we can't find a sustainable source for Barnacles, then we won't be able to find the Meta-Alloys, which means NO GO in getting the time of day from Felicity Farseer, which means NO FSD upgrades for us! [cry]

Purchase a hauler and trick it out with a SRV and a cargo hold and get rid of everthing else, A class FSD and D class essential and you'll be in the Pleiades region in no time!

Not worth it right now, all the Barnacles seem to have been devastated by unknown forces.

Why would FD make Meta-Alloys the commodity for gaining access to Farseer under these conditions? Sounds like in doing so, they have locked the majority of us out of being able to upgrade our FSD drive! Which seems like one of the few upgrades out there pretty much ALL of us would be interested in improving! ???

So I take it that this nebulae is the ONLY viable source for the material? And everyone is absolutely sure that it can't be bought or sourced somewhere less trying to get to?

As far as I know, though I'd love to know where they could be purchased! Currently combing the Pleiades region right now, but it's looking like it's going to be a long, long night...

I would think that the only logical place to purchase Meta-Alloys would be Obsidian Orbital, since many people delivered them there during the CG, as well as its location. No place to buy them, and I've visited 4 barnacles. Yes there are many more, but come on, this is a bit silly.

<sarcasm>You have to admit, it's an awesome way to add longevity to a game! Good work FD, love it.</sarcasm>

All of the previously know sites that had meta alloys are destroyed when you arrive. Some sites are still there, but now have turrets and skimmers around them as if they are being protected by someone. You can now also scan, with your srv scanner, the main body of the barnacle. You can also scan the tentacles with the large pallup (that used to hold meta alloys) and it tells you what they hold. I have found silver, platinum, urinite, and a few others.

Looks like all is not lost though! I finally had a chance to go through my long list of Engineer Invitations and I found another one who specializes in exploration and FSD mods. Her name is "Elvira Martuuk" and she is asking for (3) "Soontill Relics" ? Another exotic name for something I once again have never heard of before. (Are these all NEW commodities added for 2.1? - Although I had heard of the Meta-Alloys prior to 2.1)

Anyway... I am just about to punch this new material into my various Trade DBs and see what pops up. Fingers crossed this isn't a repeat of "The Farseer Incident"! ;) While I like the idea of rare and exotic items and materials being made central to admission to some of these Engineer encounters, the last thing I want to start seeing is a predictable impediment to access each and every time I get one of these invitations from one of these space nerds! lol! [wacky]

I think the modes are all linked, so looking in solo no longer ensures you are finding a freshly regenerated specimen. However, on the occasions you do find one with the spikes in tact, the large pods are dropping regular metals instead of Meta -alloys.

Additionally, when in tact, at least one barnacle in the jc-u b3-2 2 crater is defended by turrets.

Maybe it's the price we must pay for blasting them to bits in 2.0. Heck there was even a CG where blasting the barnacles to pieces was mandatory!

I've got the feeling Michael Brookes is sat somewhere in a hollowed out volcano laughing maniacally!

WOW! Thats kind of cool! Definitely sounds like their role in the game has been expanding as time goes on. Making them central to accessing Farseer is apparently another in a series of added importance to these things.

So, you are saying that their destruction is somehow part of the "LORE" ? I took the previous reports to mean that they were "Player Destroyed", not a plot development item. If the latter is the actual case here, of course I have far less of a problem with that, since I am all for more immersion being introduced into the game,

BUT!... I still do definitely have a problem with the proverbial "Keys to the Castle" being locked behind what becomes more or less a "PayWall". I am not a fan of tedium masquerading as depth! ;)

Don't know if you've been checking other threads, but these appear to have disappeared from game too. They were rare commodities in Ngurii, but are no longer appearing in game.

What are those items in your signature picture? They look like tins of Pipe Tobacco or beer coasters. I recognize the various logos and designs as coming from the game, but those items look like actual three dimensional somethings. Just had to ask what the heck they are! ??? [???] :D

Seriously? WTH??? :S No... I am relatively new to Horizons and the PC version of the game, having come over from 10 months on the Xbox One version where I had pretty much maxed out my ranks and abilities and reached the Billionaire Boys Club in CR earnings. Got tired of waiting and waiting for Horizons to come to the XB1 along with wanting a higher performance experience graphically. So... I threw down some respectable coin and built myself the "Ultimate Gaming/VR Machine". More or less dedicated to Elite and any other space based game/sim that tickles my fancy. (No Man's Sky is on my Steam Account's Pre-Order list! :D)

Is FD having us all on tonight or something? I can see ONE of these being an oversight, but definitely NOT TWO!

Something is definitely going on here and I don't like being the butt of the inside joke! [hotas]

Lol, nothing that exiting, they are just the various Distant Worlds badges and logos created by forum member Qohen Leth. The sig itself was made in Maya (3d modelling software).

Ahh! Well, they still look VERY cool! :) Maya sure does a convincing job of making stuff look like real to the point you could reach out and touch them! [praise]

Thanks for clarifying that little mystery for me! :D
