When a new ship is picked up on your scanner you get a little message saying 1 new contact.
Now granted, you have to scan it to learn things like its name, alignment, wanted status and rank, but some things you can see just by looking at your contacts tab, and the scanner. Namely you can see what type of ship it is, and whether or not it is a CMDR.
I wonder if it would be a good idea if this information was shown in the info box when you pick up a new contact, so that you can see what kind of ships are dropping in around you; and perhaps how much on-alert you should be.
For example:
New Contact: Python [CMDR]
might be a potential threat... If I see one of those appear while I'm scooping fuel on a rare run, I might decide to break away from scooping and jump to the next system
New Contact: Type-6
not a threat to me, but to a pirate it may be more a case of a potential quarry has just jumped in.
It also might give you a little heads up if you're being followed. If you see the Python [CMDR] jump in just after you in two successive systems, there's a chance it's the same one.
That's with just two pieces of information shown in the info box, possibly you could have a little more information that that even (while remaining with information that doesn't requite a scan), for example,
New Contact: Python [CMDR] 6 o'clock 123Ls
