1 Steam/Elite account, 2nd player?

Hi, I've been playing Elite Dangerous for quite a bit.

But I have a family member who's going to stay for a week or two, and I want her to spend some time playing Elite Dangerous from the beginning (with the Sidewinder), without messing with my credits and ships.

Is it possible? Under the Settings Options, there is one option that says Reset Game or something. If I press that she can then play from the beginning right? Would that mess up with any of my ships, ranks, or credits?

Thank in advance

Reset game DELETES everything you have achieved so far. It completely wipes out your progress. So it's advisable to just buy a sidewinder and let her mess around with it :)

Not possible and using the reset option will do just that and you will lose all of your progress. The only way to do it is by purchasing another account.

Reset is exactly that....it resets everything in game...you begin as if you had never played before....

Wow, really? Damn. Almost-almost did that. Good thing the "are you sure" question made me think of coming here to ask you guys before doing that

Yeah, get her in a sidey, take it somewhere far, far, far away from your other ships and let her go nuts :)

haha, good idea. She might find my ships docked at a station huh..

I suppose I got to move my ships elsewhere because she has been watching and knows where I've parked.

Don't forget to turn off "show ship markers" at the map screen. If/when she learns to use the map, she will easily find your ships. (And pray she doesn't find how to turn it back on. :) )

PS : Also pray she doesn't check this forum. :D

Take one of your ships several jumps to a system with both an outpost and station. Buy and outfit and park an A graded Sidewinder. Travel back to your system in your ship. Buy another inexpensive ship and fly back to the Sidewinder.

Leave the guest Sidewinder at the outpost befor logging off. . So they can launch safely and practice docking before going to the main station.

Stress to her to only use the Sidewinder, if she can't be trusted it would be best not to let her have access to your account at all.

Another tip: If you want to make sure she won't have any credits to mess with, simply buy the most expensive modules on your stored ships. When selling modules, you get 100% of the price back, so it's a convenient way to drop your credit count, while being able to restore it simply by selling the modules again, once she is done messing around with your stuff :p

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I've settled this pretty much thanks to the help of some of you.

I do have a follow up question though, has anyone ever tried the Reset Account thing? How safe is it? If I accidentally click on it, will it immediately delete my progress? Or will I have to key in a password before it confirms the reset? Sometimes there's only a Yes or No question and you stand a 50-50 chance to click the wrong button thinking this button is selected and that button is not selected (because only 2 colours and 2 options so you don't really know which one means selected) so I hope it is more secure than that?

Don't do it, don't even think about it.

Second copy of ED for £9.99 https://www.frontierstore.net/sale.html you my have to search here for how to run 2 versions but DO NOT let anyone play your commander unless you can afford to lose everything. They will find a way to cost you everything (or at least loose all your rep and credits, join PP on the other side, and maybe get you a massive bounty into the bargain). You will be back here crying :)

Surely, avoiding that is worth £9.99.

Ya I know what you mean, seems very risky lol.

I wish there was a trial kind of thing, where the player can play only the first ship and fly/trade only around 3 starter systems. That should be enough for them to decide whether they should get their own account or not. The current "combat training" is quite limited in that it doesn't let me show what the game is about, I couldn't demo mining, exploration, bounty hunting, etc with it.

I'm kinda thinking of buying a 2nd account just for demoing the game to people.

Get a second account and make sure the password for the first isn't even saved. Just look at what players do to their own account Accidentally sold my Clipper ='(

Ah, I see you already did...

Edit: Frontier should implement a second disposable CMRD that expires after 10 hours of gameplay (solo mode only).
