1 year break, of frustration... returning to Elite...

Well, I took a year break from the game, and when I returned, not only the same bugs are there, and thing that effects me the most, is that trading is still nr one way to go. Im forced to do cargo runs to earn decent money, other than that, im risking my ship for a putrid sum... not worth it.... game is so unbalanced and it breaks my heart because this is a really good game :(. It's like you have a really strong foundation of game, to build the best space game in the world, but they dont want that, they ruin it because they are lazy. I hope that the new overhauled mission system will save this, because I don't want to go from A to B and back all the time with cargo, I did that too much already, because I was forced to do so... spending time on something else, means either losing money or earning very little for a lot of effort, when doing cargo, no effort at all and earning a lot of money.

If I remember rightly... 'being forced to' and 'choosing to' are two different ethics... Seems you made a choice there :)

Long-range trading is more enjoyable than A-B grinding, and can be fairly lucrative if you have reasonable trade rank.

This game requires patience that other combat simulators don't. That's why you feel so torn about it. You know it's the best combat simulator ever; but it takes a lot of patience playing to get to that point of you want to play with the big ships.

Lots of people have fun in the smaller ships too. It's an infinite galaxy!

In its current state the game revolves around submitting to NPC oriented power and missions that attempt to imprint you as a galactic slave.

You have a well equipped ship ...capable of protecting the cargo you appreciate and the faction you are serving but the payout is pathetic and is next to insulting.
Travel 80ish LYrs ++ for peanuts.
OR run some insanely difficult shadow mission for again... petty funding UNLESS you happen to be in one of those special 400 billion and expanding systems and are in the know about what that system is.
-CMDRs pay for NPC ram and scans
-CMDRs pay for NPC friendly fire
-CMDRs pay via ship repair or insurance deductibles to help someone in these distress calls for zero return...not even a ...thanks CMDR!
-System authorities ensure you do not have any interaction with what was once stolen cargo. That you as unwanted CMDR want to help return it...na...screw off CMDR, touch that and you are fined.
-NPCs run about destroying miners in res zones and are never placed in the vulnerable position to claim the cargo that motivated them to destroy the ship in the 1st place. Never.
You are fined for the incredible assault of friendly fire but are tagged and fined for saving anyone in life pods. Only NPCs are allowed to have that fun and I dont think NPCs pay to play this game

But, you are told to go and engage those little circles...you know the USS...ok...poof in I go and ...wow, a fleet of security asps, probably a cargo fleet...and? You arent asked to help escort them at all ...
OR... 12 canisters of gold..cool...maybe i can reclaim it before pirates do ..oh right, no, those canisters freely floating are "stolen" ---just leave them for the pirates.

Yeah the cargo being marked as 'stolen' which is a kicker and the reason I dont bother with USS's any more, whats the point of finding some cargo only to be told you cant scoop it. At least in Elite if you came across a free floating canister its fair game and could be rather lucrative. ED does ruin in some cases the Elite lore and the whole feeling of the Elite universe where it seems corporate greed even covers cargo canisters that they would probably never EVER find out there anyways.

Yeah, I noticed. Yesterdays topic was about him not understanding how SC works, now he's back to inform us he also doesnt get how earning money works. Note how he also doesnt really do anything but start a topic, sit back and enjoy the responses. Its a troll. :)

The point is that you can scoop it and then sell it...

For a sense of accomplishment one can always go to Robigo and run a few shadow missions in a well equipped Asp, just stack missions to raise difficulty and pay out. Or go to 17 Draconis to raise Federal rank and do a few long range missions. 2.1 will be out soon and I'm looking forward to see the new missions, crafting, weapons and other surprises in store. These " opportunities " may be gone next update. Try to look at the glass half full rather than half empty!
