10-20% trade dividend bonus for trading in open.

Trading in open is a lot harder than trading in solo or PG. You have to have a open focused build, which requires engineers and sacrificing cargo space. You also have to actually deal with gankers harassing you. Overall, its a lot more risk and effort to trade in open.

Thats why I propose that the game rewards players for playing in open by giving them 10-20% of their trade (and mining) profit in trade dividends if and only if they never enter solo or PG from the time they acquire the commodity to the time they sell it. This would significantly reward players in open (or compensate them depending on how you look at it) while not being OP, as its not much more than replacing a shield generator with a cargo rack, which is what you do if you want to maximize profit in solo or pg.

Sounds pretty fair to me, a good incentive for risk/reward, equivalent of danger money.

I do most things in open this would just be icing on the cake but you have to understand that not everybody has the level of awareness or practical mindset required to take self accountability and overcome the challenge of surviving in open. Most don't even find it fun. If anything this bonus should go to private games like Mobious as an apology from frontier for the toxic open environment

There should be a 20% bonus to exploration payouts for flying in Open. I mean, the increased risk of running into a hostile player in a random system 30 kLYs from the Bubble is totally worth it, right?

Honestly, does anyone think this will actually work? People will just fly happily in Open for the 99% of the time where they don't meet any other players, then log out whenever they see a hollow square on the radar.

All you're going to motivate people to do by giving bonuses in Open is combat log.

And there is another issue, if you don't log out via menu (which frontier views as ok) then your ship should remain in space until it has gone 15 seconds without going into "danger"

Its not a combat log if you aren't in combat for starters. Also plenty of people already have that mentality in open. If anything it would punish them for it because they lose the 20% bonus.

If you are at a CG, it is impracticable to switch to solo every time you see a player. If you are doing mining you will lose millions of credits doing so. Only time switching to solo helps is the rare case that a ganker or pirate happens to fly through some backwaters trade route and doesn't plan on staying there. In that situation you could just wake out and keep your bonus.

If only that was possible :(

Losing a 20% bonus is a lot more appealing than losing the whole amount, plus a ship rebuy - so people will take the easy way out.

CGs they'll just stay in Solo or PG, same as they do now.

Imagine you're a sports fan, you're big into the rugby, it's great, you go to the sports bar and you get to be all loud with your mates while you watch the game, it's great

then you see someone go into the bar across the street that doesn't show the rugby - what is this? They're not watching the rugby? They should watch the rugby. A try is scored, you and your mates yell and shout, and that quiet couple off in the corner get up and they go across the street too. What? How dare they go out to the pub and not want to have to deal with loud sports fans? Loud sports fans are an integral part of going to the pub, after all.

Maybe they need an incentive. Oh! Let's have a discount on beer when the rugby's on, that'll get those people out of the nice quiet comfy bar and into the sports bar.

... they're not coming. How dare they.

Yet another playing-in-Open-is-superior thread.

I'm beginning to see an incredibly annoying pattern here.....

Could it be that people think Open should have more incentive and more content?

Seems to be that.

Given how many post there are requesting positive changes for the open play element I'd say it's safe to assume thats what people want.

Note how its always the same people who resist these things whereas most others can see the merits? I do.

It's what some people want, yes. But that doesn't mean it's what the majority want, and that doesn't mean it's a good idea. All it means is that some people want more stuff for playing what they consider to be the 'right' way.

Honestly, it's the kind of attitude you expect to see in a kindergarten. Especially given that those people are incapable of accepting the fact that they've been repeatedly told 'no'.

A properly built ship, especially an end game ship, can survive a run in with a player and potentially even make it past a blockade to a station. Its a risk, but personally I would much rather risk an open focused ship for a 20% bonus than just switch to solo mode at the first sign of trouble.

And your point about CGs is easily dismissed by the fact that there is a sizable portion of the player base who does it in open. This change would reward that portion and increase it even further.

Yes.
