10 min Summary on CQC (and a look at the Condor) - The things Frontier have told us...

So here's a brief summary on the CQC for those of you that can't (or don't want to) watch the Twitch stream, highlighting the information Frontier gave us about CQC (as well as a look at the Condor). It's actually starting to look really quite good! :)

so ships handle different and modules work differently and you can launch it out of elite.
I dont recall anything like this being promised back in dev diary days.
i do remember things like
1 sneaking onboard other players ships
2 watching cargo float into space from inside damaged ship
3 "i bring friends"
4 planet side hunting
5 players effecting the background simulator
and so on

Dev diaries and design archives mean nothing. Its impossible to tell where this game is going and for long it will remain relevant. Oh well, i have prem beta and if the goin ever gets good i wont need to buy the expansions, and if it goes down the crapper i at least have a hotas to use on No Mans Sky.

I've been enjoying ED quite a bit more lately, so that's good. However, I have no interest in Powerplay and definitely not in CQC, so that's not so good -- two additions in a row that aren't what I'm after. Hopefully whatever's after this will be more my cup of tea.

I just hope the maneuverability changes are added to the main game - the same ship flying differently between two modes is a big no-no. Love the condor cockpit, Hope that is added to the main game. In short, I might play CQC, but I would like to hear about the Main Game being expanded upon more.

My thoughts exactly. I'm really really hoping 1.4 or whatever the August reveal will be, will be something good and just not more gimmicks to attract modern gamers.

I enjoyed the stream, though it suffered from a lot of compression artifacts on my end (even playing at source), I am really looking forward to CQC. I'm also pretty excited that we PC users won't have to wait as long as we initially thought.

I do do share the sentiments of the other posters here, but I dunno man, since we've heard that fdev now have a 10 year development plan.

From what i have seen you can keep this arcady xbone junk,This is what happens when you deal with Satan(MS)They make you put stuff in for kids,Why would anybody get upset Because this is Xbone first,I hope console players dont think this how the main game will be or they will be in for a rude awakening. If CQC is true reprsentation how most console games are then i fear ED is aiming its self at the wrong market Not optimistic about this at all

CQC makes perfect sense in xbox-verse. No need to roam galaxy for weeks, blazing own trail, making enough money to cover for insurance, finding places where one can role-play a pirate, bountyhunter, outlaw, cultist or whatever else. Finding and joining/opposing groups, listenting with ear to the ground, reading forums, reddit - forget it, it's about to become simpler. Log in -- kill, kill, kill. COD in space. It's funny, I even start to "understand" the idea - it surely provides more substance than playing BGS or PP, which are in pityful condition. Tournaments, prizes, decals, fame, glory. If they can't make complex galaxy, they can at least make nice arcade spin-off -- it's good that FD realised their developments limits and now actually aim for something realistic, something they can accomplish.

So what is the point of CQC if all the ships handle differently and any lessons learned in CQC don't apply to the actual game? This is so dumb. I didn't buy Elite for an Arcade shooter I bought it because it was supposed to be a space sim. So two updates I don't care about; when will FDev actually put in something we want?

Lets wait. Frontier starts to open-up a little with wonderful new community guy and my STRONG impression is that those two things (PP and CQC) are mostly 'secondary' additions that were done by maybe 20% of the team, just to keep multiplayer-based players busy while other 80% is working on a core additions that were in initial design documents. I really hope so, and that would clear up pretty soon.

I want to be hopeful too but with how opaque FDev is about the game development I have many concerns with the future of this game and if I can be patient enough.

Pretty much this, the new additions are nice add-ons there to appease certain player demographics Very much still believe that the core "Elite" mechanics we have been hearing/talking about for so long are still on the way and without doubt one of them will be in the August announcement. I see zero issue with CQC to broaden the consumer base for the game, increase development funds and give those than need this kind of game-play their fix. It doesn't appeal to me whatsoever but if this ensures that the popularity and funds are there to ensure Elite continues to grow into the game we all want it to be, then I'm all for it.

What this guy saidx1000.

And yeah, there was a period where we didn't hear anything from Frontier aside from the dev updates and newsletters, but these past couple of weeks have seen absolutely TONS of interaction from devs. I'm actually very surprised at how much interaction we've gotten, between responses to the threads in this discussion forum, to these new 'we'd like your suggestions on this' to little sort of "who's this dev?" mini bios.

So far we've had the primary release of the game, then several 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 updates that all were pretty major in their own way as far as feature expansion and adjustments, but we haven't yet gotten a massive game changing update yet, like "2.0" would presumably be. We are only 7 months out from the release of the game and development is nowhere near finished, and no dev has ever said that it was finished.

I'm still waiting for NPC crews and the ability to walk around my ship. I saw a video of the developers talking about what they want about Elite, every single one mentioned being to walk around the ship or walk outside the ship. So while this update isn't for me but at least the devs want to make what I want eventually.

Maybe if I could "volunteer" to fly a condor in a combat zone with dozens of other players all launching from the same carrier and we had some objective to accomplish in main game world, I'd show more interest. But I've never liked arena combat in of itself.

I disagree, that's like saying "oh console users are too dumb to enjoy the full game, so we'll dumb it down into pewpew for them". Which I believe is rather insulting to console owners.

The first part is plain wrong, while the second is right. They are not "too dumb" as you put it, they are usually sold instant action games. That is why FD made a decision to make spinoff for them and present it as front for Elite core game, so the concept could look in line with games like Call of Duty, NFS, Halo & FIFA. Or did you think the terrific idea of CQC was conceived with PC in mind and as a part of a core game?
