Was thinking this morning, like most people I use these forums as a sounding board for ideas, improvements to current issues in the hope that even 0.01% might go into the game some day. The flipside is it does make us spend most of our time talking about current issues... so today, I thought I'd wrap up some of the things I love about this game the most, in the hope they don't get forgotten here in a quest for fixing the negatives.
1. Negative player interaction - from killing commanders, extorting their cargo, or loading up on rares before the next guy does. Its fantastic, it adds proper risk and excitement to every second, I haven't felt since Ultima online. Never change it never make it fluffy, no matter how much mis-guided players consider it 'griefing' .
2. Its massive... no, really massive. We've discovered 615,475 systems so far, a whole 0.00015% . Who knows what lurks far far away.
3. Dynamic events - not just the kind of random AI generated dynamic, but real, human designed dynamic events and news happening continuously around us. I can't think of any other game that has ever does this.
4. The ships - Whilst there is lots more to come, the current ones look like amazing re-imaginings of their original basic designs.
5. Combat - its easy to get to grips with, yet mountains of depth to master to truly take it to other players.
6. Community - Its rare you see the kind of community we have here and on reddit. The average modern MMO community outside of guilds pretty much looks like the other players are their for decoration. I almost enjoy the anticipation of playing and posting here, as I do playing!
7. Real bounty hunting - sure killing NPC's is OK, but real bounty hunting? Big game hunting actual players half way across the galaxy, what a rush.
8. Its a cruel world - losing a ship has real consequences, whether it be insurance costs, cargo, bounty or exploration data, or worse, uninsured losses.
9. Learning curve - Sure you aren't wrapped in cotton wool, heck even landing or supercruising takes some work, but so continuously rewarding when you get to grips with it, and get the occasional reminder of how tricky it was to start... like that sidewinder stuck in the cattlegrid of a station in LHS-3447.
10. The potential - Far from stopping at a release and the immediate revenue generation of that, there is so much more planned, more ships, more multiplayer, planetary landings, and that I suspect is just for starters.
