100 million credits burning a hole in my pocket

OP, what new style of gameplay do you wish to explore with a new ship?

This is a very good question. I might well be putting the cart before the horse here - if I figure out what exactly I want to do next in the game, that would narrow down the choice of ships. Maybe this question about ships is a way of putting off that bigger question.

Maybe I should pick a ship by a random role of the dice, and then figure out what the hell I'm going to do with it. Seems sensible, right?

I'd buy back the AspX and then spend a fortune on it in an attempt to rid myself of the shame and guilt I felt for selling such a wonderful ship in the first place.
That's just me though.

The obvious hole in your fleet is an Apex combat ship.
Cr100m is plenty to buy and A-rate a Vulture for the times when you just wanna make stuff go boom.

I think that the quest for a new ship can often be like putting the cart in front of the horse. Ideally, you'd make a list of what ground you've already covered in the game, then another list to put next to it for a side by side comparison of all the things you are interested in doing but haven't tried yet, ranked in order of priority. Then find the proper ship & setup to help you accomplish your goals.

I'd buy a Conda or T9.
But that's me. As you stated above (or as I understood it) your not exactly sure of what you want to do with your new ship?
All the more reason to get a Anaconda. It can do everything well. You mentioned not wanting to get one until you can A-rate it but unless it's a combat build you can certainly get by with (mostly) D-rated modules (A-rate FSD if possible though) for most tasks.
The Anaconda is a pretty awesome ship. This is all IMHO of course.

But... but... I want a new shiny thing now! Seriously though, that's great advice.

I'd also advise somebody who gave up an FdL and only has a 100 mil in the bank to avoid Anaconda combat like the plague. I bought one last year, got it all fit for travel (I thought) and took it to Beagle Point two hours after buying it. I think it was about 220 million with a really big fuel scoop, but everything else paper thin explo fit. That was a fun trip.

You have understood correctly! Definitely something to consider. I do like to bounty hunt, but I could always have a cheaper ship like a Vulture alongside a non-combat Anaconda for that.

I'm not trying to withhold advice, I'm just saying it would be easier to give you advice if I knew what you were interested in:)

Sorry, did that sound sarcastic? I meant your suggestion of making list of things I want to do in the game was great advice, genuinely.

The first really "focused" thing I ever did in ED, after 400-500 hours of non-focused gameplay mind you, was turn running the Robigo slave gauntlet into a science. I used a chunk of those proceeds to buy that Sploraconda I referenced earlier and then took it for an epic journey. Actually, that journey turned out to be a real big point of the eventual Steam review I wound up writing and still forms the foundation upon which I would cement my CMDR's marathon run through the game world. It was a great experience, and one I can't recommend highly enough.

Here's a link to the review if you're curious

I never realized you had a writers touch Cmdr.
Nice read.

I am curious, I'll have a read when I'm at work tomorrow.

By the way, the "Robigo slave gauntlet" sounds like a great name for a rare good. It would be an armoured glove used to commit unspeakable acts.

I'd probably do a FAS or Vulture for combat, since you seem to not have a dedicated combat ship now. Also, the gunship is fun if you want a fighter or to do multicrew.
