100% Power Usage?

I'm just trying to fine tune my Viper for max damage and defence capability for BH.

I can get my power usage through module control to be 100%. Is that a good or bad thing?

Basically is it better to have some headroom with power? I kind of felt things were sluggish. Or maybe it was just the slow reaction of gimballed targeting. Maybe I'm just imagining it.

At the moment my Viper has:

1x Gimp beam 1E
1x Gimp beam 2D
2x Gimp Mutli-canons 1G

Shield Booster C
KWS D

P Plant 3A
Thrust 3E
FSD 3E
L Supp 2E
P Dizy 3A
Sensors 3E

Fuel Cap-4 2C
Shield Gen 3A
Shield Cell Bank 2A
FSD Int 1D

Any advice for a better load out and how to manage the modules would be much appreciated guys. Cheers.

Turn off your cargo scoop. You can also set your power module priorities to where your FSD turns off when you deploy your hardpoints.

Personally, I would keep the medium beam, and lose the small one. Put a medium multi cannon on it. Never put a smaller weapon on a larger hardpoint. It is a waste.

Its fine to be over 100% power usage, you just need to either turn off certain modules before combat, manage your power distribution, or both.

I have a Python spec'd for combat zones and on paper, the modules run the power to 133.2% because of the 8 SCBs on there. But, I only need to use one at a time, so I turn the rest off, and swap the modules in the field when one runs out of charges. With 7/8 modules off, my power is well under 100% when hardpoints are deployed.

Here's how I would build your ship:

With this, you can run engines and sys at higher pips and weapons at 1 because heat buildup will be minimal.

So 3 Multi C's you reckon? I do seem to take out the hull slower.

Yep I have cargo hatch priority 3, but I have FSD at 1.

So it should/could be 2 or 3?

Check the build I put out. I edited my post while I was typing.

When managing a tight power fit, FSD should always be off when the hardpoints are deployed. Set to 3 as well.

You can permanently disable Cargo Hatch unless you need to cargo scoop, or just run it down to a lower priority along with the FSD to gain an extra 0.6MW. Doesn't sound like much, but your KWS is using 0.4MW, so you get that for free. :)
