1080 or 1070

About to pull the trigger on a second 1080 for Multicrew (networked PC) am looking at 1070 prices and wondering if the performance would be any good on the CV1? Are there many happy 1070 VR customers here?

Cheers

I am using an AMD Fury card and it's fine. I would suspect the 1070 which has better perfomance in DX11 should be good to go, obviously the 1080 will be better still.

I know its the trap of something always around the corner, but the 1080Ti is rumoured to be turning up soon, and a 1080 price drop.

Still on the fence regarding this, I already have a 1080, will trade that in for 1080TI if it ever surfaces. I'm asking about installing a 1080 on a second rig for multicrew. Haven't yet tested ASW, am in the UK at the moment with no access to my main rig.

What I really need to know is does ED run well on a 1070 with the CV on high settings and ASW. There is a 300 quid difference between the 1070 & 1080 here in the UK, I'd rather spend that money on a Fender Jag or something else. What I don't want to see is crap performance on the second rig.

I went through this with the 970/980TI, went cheap and regretted it.

Hmmm, may have just convinced myself to go 1080, guess I could sometimes use it in SLI with other games.

Sorry to go OT but, what is this networked "multicrew" you speak of? I've been out of the loop for a long time.....

If you have the money, always go for the better performing card. You'll always regret not doing so a year or two down the road.

I posted this in another thread a couple of weeks ago. Nothing has changed, still extremely pleased, although having read the reviews of the Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Spectra it seems I picked an awesome card. Haven't tried ASW yet, don't feel the need. I'll wait for update.

Blacks, mine are sufficiently black. The bar that comes up when opening the mission board for example, is very black. The black of space is..... well black. I see no issues with the blacks. God rays, I have looked for them but to be honest I'm not sure what they look like. I have never seen anything resembling there description. I have viewed Henry as I believe some people say they are particularly prevalent at the beginning with the white on black txt, but I saw nothing out of the ordinary.

I am one extremely happy CV1 owner who luckily has not had any of the issues or problems others are/have been having. My system is as below, it was built with VR in mind.

I am using the in game VR High profile but with antialiasing off and super sampling at X2.0 DOF off. All gameplay so far has been in 2.1. If people have any question please just ask cos prior to purchase I had 100's

Win10
16GB Ram
i7-6700K 4.0GHz
Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Extreme Spectra
Corsair RM750i Power supply
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Mobo
Corsair Graphite 780T case
Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler
and lots of white LED fans.

Hey Sanderson,

Multicrew is the next update, we'll be able to have others join us onboard our ships. I am putting together a second VR rig with a horizons account. We will finally be able to have our friends/family/partners ride shotgun in the spare seat.

@K2C, thanks mate

Why not wait it out until that release is actually out in beta, at least ? You'll get more hardware per dollar if the longer you wait.

(Unless you're remaining here in the UK, in which case our currency will have sunk to new lows by then, and buy you LESS!)

I got a 1080 and with the Rift, and it seems like overkill with the new optimizations.

All very subjective of course considering you have people who are perfectly happy with a 970 (I've got one, it's terrific, but I have had to tinker with settings quite a bit and make compromises on graphics quality vs. framerate) but nevertheless I do appreciate comments like the one above. As the OP says, there's nearly a £300 price difference. If I got a 1070, could I just turn everything up to Ultra and forget about it? I'd much rather just get on with playing the game safe in the knowledge that it's as good as it can be (which is where I am with a 970 running a 1920x1080p monitor), rather than starting every session with a quick 10mins of tinkering with debug tool SS settings and ASW options in order to try and eek out a teensy bit more performance.

hehe I am doing the exact same, getting a second rig with another CV1 for multi crew! :D

What!?!?!?! Oh crap, looks like I'll need two new cards, one for my rig and another for the kids.....

As time goes on gpu's will be pressed harder and harder to perform. Future proof your purchase for a couple of years and get a 1080.

Future proofing is a bit of a mugs game though isn't it? Next year the 2080 will be out and that will likely be 2x as powerful as the 1080. The 2070 will also come out and be nearly 2x more than the 1080 but cost around the same as the 1070 does now.

A 1080 isn't really OP now from what I've read, let alone future proof. A year behind the curve is where I like to be... a 1080 will be ~£200 this time next year (1/3 current price). That said I'm thinking about buying a 1080 but the cheapest one that will fit my case. I'm throwing money away if I do though... it is certainly not future proofing.
