Greetings,

Maybe getting to King in the Empire doesn't mean a lot in the current game per any advantages but it was a nice goal to accomplish. It made my day! Still we have a long way to go in this game so maybe being King in the future will give us access to ships and equipment. We'll see how that works out...

But I am now going to moan about all this...

I understand you have achieved your goal, and that is great! But in reality the rank is worthless.

2 years into ED...

All that time put in and you get absolutely nothing, not a word of acknowledgement of your rank from NPCs, not even a cosmetic skin.

Just like system permits, a pointless and empty exercise in grinding. The only reward being the knowledge you invested a whole bunch of time for a bit of meaningless text to change. Text that no-one else can even see.

What kind of game design is that? I might as well just set myself arbitary challenges, for example do the same back and forth mission run 5000 times. Because that's what it amounts to.

Sometime down the line some reward may be attached to the King rank but there will be no sense of accomplishment for you with that, it'll just be handed to you and you you will be denied the experience of working towards something and being rewarded for it.

Yeah sorry.

But y'know, it's bad, and not really very fair on players who invest the time into this.

If there's no reward for a rank, the rank should never have been put in the game.

As it stands there should only be 3 Empire ranks...

  • Serf - reward: Imperial Courier, Achenar Permit
  • Master- reward: Imperial Clipper, Summerland Permit
  • Knight - reward: Imperial Cutter, Facece Permit

Everything else is pointless and a waste of everyone's time.


Squire, Knight, Lord, Viscount, Count, Earl, Marquis? What does it even mean?


And if/when this is fleshed out, all players who've already gone through it will have been robbed of the progression. But you can't not go through it because the Cutter is locked behind it all. :(

So now were celebrating some ones ablity to grind...

Have to agree with Bitstorm, if they ment somthing I might be more inclined to get with the party vibe. I have 753 hours clocked on steam and about the same off, Imp rank is Marquis, Fed is Petty Officer, but they are names would be nice if they ment more, who knows maybe they will.

Well done mate. Hope you enjoy your kingship! I did up to the one that got me the big boat then stopped. Always thought that the empire ranking names was a bit silly. Like it was written on a table mat round the pub one day at FD towers...

Its true I have needs, some might even call them special. I dont have a purpose tho.

Tbh not even sure why I posted in the first place as the poster is one of the few people I have on ignore so I diddnt even read the OP. Nine times out of ten I by pass threads that I know will hold nothing of interest for me but from time to time I slip from my teachings and post a #### post.

But yes well done OP....

Surely Military / major rank progression must be a 3.x feature.

Darn...and I thought I was one of the good guys on the Forum! Sorry if I've upset anyone in the past as I'll debate an issue vigorously (I am always pro ED!) but it is important for me to never get personal even using " a player..., I've..., one can always..." and never "you" in a post. Still I'm not perfect and posts can be taken 20 different ways. I'll try a little harder to get off your ignore list. :)

Also thanks for all the accolades and the "King is worthless..." comments as well. My goal wasn't so much about praise for an accomplishment but more of a let's let Frontier know that being King or Admiral should have a reward. It is a dedicated effort just like an Elite rating. It could be access to a future ship or equipment, one less material requirement for engineers, a new engineer access with shield modifications that work with Thargoids, unique reconnaissance missions to gather Thargoid data, maybe even a vanity CMDR King Hooplah or Admiral Flimley (congrats to you!) free name plate or added to the ID others see in the game.

Elite ratings get access to more profitable missions. The highest military rankings should have a little compensation. Just throwing out some ideas and see what sticks to the wall.

You have achieved a worthy personal goal, it's a shame that the game doesn't offer a reward for the higher levels. Congrats.

To paraphrase Napoleon (no, not the Napoleon in the forum), it is amazing what soldiers will do for a bit of ribbon.

Myself included.
