14'' Laptop for Elite?

I have a nice thumper laptop (too bulky at 17") and a decent PC. I'm lookingfor a travel laptop that would run Horizons and be suitable for general work. Does anyone out there have a little laptop that will run horizons. The only ones I've found online are the top end jobbies atabout a grand. I don't suppose its possible for under £500? Unless anyone knows differently? Also one where the spacebar works properly!

You realize of course that laptops (and computers in general) that are capable of running video games at a reasonably high level of performance are usually among the most capable (and usually most expensive) computers? Any computer you get that can run video games at high performance levels will no doubt be more than suitable for most everyday work tasks but under £500? I do not know the current £ to $ exchange rate but a good gaming laptop isn't cheap (I cannot compare today because of cyber-Monday). o7

Yes, I was quite hoping there’d be something in the current sales frenzy that I might encourage my wife to get me for christmas, something nicer than a jumper and longer lasting than whisky!

I'll be getting a Lenovo V155-API AMD Ryzen 3500U this Christmas - mainly for browsing / programming - but intend to try E: D on it. Currently on sale for about £350.

Thanks Robert, will look into that one. I had a Lenovo 320s but it kept crashing. Probably the graphics card? Don’t know much about computers, look to you cats for advice! Thanks again.

Do you think that’ll do it? Will you spend Xmas day downloading games and such?! I know I won’t, am doing a 13 people Xmas dinner! The silver lining is my sister is an elite fan, we’ll be in cqc together! Probably not entirely sober by then!

Installed.

Runs. :)

Simplest repeatable "benchmark": sitting in the opening hangar prior to starting the game. VSync off (panel is 60Hz); Frame limit off; FOV maxed; otherwise stock graphics settings.

1920x1080;
Low; 41-43 FPS.
Mid; 38-40 FPS.
High; 27-29 FPS.
Ultra; 19-20 FPS.

1600x900;
Low; 53-57 FPS.
Mid; 50-52 FPS.
High; 38-39 FPS.
Ultra; 26-28 FPS.

1280x720;
Low; 75-82 FPS.
Mid; 69-74 FPS.
High; 55-58 FPS.
Ultra; 39-40 FPS.

NP - it was an excuse to use it, deferring wrapping as long as possible.

I took the opportunity to install a 1TB SSD in the HDD bay (which is supplied empty as the 256GB SSD is an M.2 2242) - and will swap the 4GB SO-DIMM in the single slot (the other 4GB is soldered to the motherboard) for a bigger one at the earliest opportunity. Spudger required for removal of bottom section of case - maintenance manual available as a PDF describes how to very well.

The RAM I mentioned earlier arrived - 16GB Patriot DDR4 SO-DIMM, CL 17 (£50) - now installed - so it's now a 20GB laptop. :)

[edit] Strictly speaking it's now an 18GB laptop - as 2GB is assigned to the GPU. [/edit]

ha!
I believe its possible on a PS Vita with a ps3 through wifi! Cant imagine the controls are very much fun though!
Its fine for every thing but combat.... (y)
Remote play can be used for all the slow stuff.. Trading, (if you get attacked you have to stop and quit game) exploring, Mining. HGE item collecting and so on...
But god the screen size Is garbage on vita and forget reading galnet text...

If you have stream you can now do the same with what ever they are calling it now on a mobile...( steam link...)

An Acer Nitro 5 would likely run it fine on that budget. 1080P IPS Display GTX1050ti AMD an i5-9300, 8gigs DDR4 (upgradable) 15” display so slightly larger than what you were looking for but for the budget you’ve set its a good option

I play it on a HP Pavilion, similarly specced. Runs the game perfectly fine at medium 1080p, but I tend to play at 900p as it is virtually indistinguishable on a small screen plus it means I get a better frame rate and i can bump up some of the settings too.

Thanks again all for your help. I ended up with a Lenovo Ideapad S540 14”. The missus let me road test it over the weekend, works brilliantly. It’s currently reduced from £599 to £499.
I made sure it had all the specs, processors, graphics etc the one Robert Maynard recommended, didn’t really know what to look for until you helped, thanks again!
