Hardware & Technical 1440p or ultrawide?

Ok, I'm looking for a new monitor, and mostly play Elite so what are people's thoughts on 2560*1440 vs 2560*1080 (the small ultrawide)? For ultrawide, I'm wondering how well the UI fits and what else might it add to the experience. The 1440p size only has the issue that I'd need to upgrade my video card to get good performance.
Currently have a GTX 960, runs at 60Hz except sometimes inside stations.

Some models I've considered:
BenQ GW2765HT (27" 2560*1440 75Hz)
BenQ BL2420PT (24" 2560*1440 60Hz)
LG 29UM68-P (29" 2560*1080 75Hz freesync)

I don't have the space/budget for a huge monitor, so I haven't considered anything over 30".

I have the BenQ GW2765HT (been using it for 18 months with no issues) and it is the best monitor I have ever used (and I have used a lot) - You will totally love the extra detail that the 2560 x 1440 brings and the 27" in a good size to appreciate it.

I ran a 4GB GTX970 until today (when I fitted a lovely 1070) - it ran Elite at Ultra on the BenQ with no issues so the 960 will probably keep you happy for a while, in fact before the 970 I ran the BenQ from a 2GB GTX660ti in ultra and it seemed to be OK. The 660ti blew up so I replaced it with the 970 and I was surprised at the improvement.

I'm running a 34" 3440X1440 on a 980Ti + a second 24" 1920X1200 aux monitor.

Wouldn't go any other way at the moment. I might add 27" 2560X1440 monitors on either side once I do a new build and move up to a 1080Ti - but for now, this works very nicely.

The extra height on the 1440 monitors is worth it.

Looking at what you have in the OP. I'd go 27" 2560 X 1440

I have an 38" ultrawide, did try 34", too. I'd say everything below 29" (maybe even 29") is too small for an ultrawide.
I was using a 27" 1440p monitor before, and it was very good. I took the 38"over the 34" because with the 34" the difference to 27" 19:10 was rather marginal.

Sounds like 2560x1440 is the preferred! Thanks, and nice to know I might be able to run it with current setup. I had set super sampling to 2.0 to simulate 1440p resolution, and it seemed to get really choppy approaching stations. Maybe that wasn't the right way to simulate it?
That displaywars site is handy too, thanks.
