145% Power usage ?

I'm playing around with edshipyard trying to design my first combat ship.

On this Viper I get up to 145% power usage ?

Can anyone explain to me how I am supposed to manage this and what will happen once i deploy hardpoints ?

You need to set up priorities on the right hand UI, modules. Set the FSD, Cargo Scoop and Fuel Scoop to a lower priority when you're weapons are deployed (and pick a mission type to setup for). You don't have enough power to do it all....

Not sure how you managed to get nearly 16MW.. highest I topped was I think 13.8 or some such before there was no more room with cargo hatch off completely and priorities set. Extra toggling going on there with chaff and kws or what? If it is, I can't be bothered with that, if I need more than 13.8, which was a great setup, I just run a Cobra, like now. Good job on squeezing all you can out of the Vipers though guys :)

It definitely took some playing around, but it wasn't overly painful :)
 
Your Cargo Scanner is responsible for 27% of the 145% total, your KWS for another 27%. Get rid of both of those or decide which one you really need. Do you want to be a Bounty Hunter (KWS) or a Pirate (Cargo Scanner)? You can't be both. The Viper is an excellent ship that will fulfil one role and one role only, if you try to make it into a multi-purpose ship then you will encounter these issues.

Personally, I would ditch both scanners and put some weapons on it.

Edit: Also, do you really need Rating A Life Support? You seem to have everything A rated. Decide what you really need to keep at A rating and use D rated modules for what isn't so important.

You can totally do both cargo and KWS. But not at the same time. Power things down with the module management on the right screen. Change the priority of systems so if you go over you don't lose core systems.

Edited to add: drop them to C class KWS and cargo and only have one active in the module screen at a time and that ship works.

Not being able to have everything all at once is the whole point of the power plant restrictions. What will happen if you deploy hard points is that all of the systems with the lowest priority (higher number means lower priority) will shut down, if that's not enough, then the next level of priority will shut down, etc

Each KWS, Frameshift Wake Sensor, Cargo Scanner of 1 Class higher than that of a lower Class consumes twice as much power. So class A scanners consume 3.2MW, B - 1.6MW, C - 0.8MW. Taking into account that B scanners have a range of 3.5km and C - 3km there is little sense in buying Class A scanners.
