1920x1200?

Please read Ben Parry's post above again. He already said that the default aspect ratio is 16:9 and, whenever you screen exceed this in one dimension, you gain visibility in that direction.

In other words, 16:10 screen will get a higher vertical FOV than 16:9, and the same FOV horizontally.

Hooray! Well in, Ben - thanks for sorting out us "proper monitor users"! ;)

Anything down to 1:1 (and up to $large:1) will be supported without black bars, and will always give you the default 16:9 view with either the vertical or horizontal FOV extended to make use of the extra screen space.
This is now fixed in our trunk build, but Alpha 4.x is coming from a branch that may not get it.

So does that mean currently in the Premium Beta release, 16:10 (in my case 1920x1200) doesn't yet properly scale? As in provide you the same horizontal length found in 1920x1080 but doesn't give you more vertical length?

Last time I checked the differences between 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 in PB, the 1920x1200 was horizontally shorter than the the 1920x1080 and there was no difference in vertical length?

That's because the fix Ben mentioned isn't live yet. Not sure why you asked the question when Ben's comment, that you quoted, already said that! ;)

Edit: Okay, PB1 is pretty much Alpha 4.x, but he did specifically say Alpha 4.x so I guess I can understand your question. I apologise for questing your question! :D But yeah, it's not live yet.

Well 2560x1600 kind of works for me as there are no black bars, and the star map and station services screens are all ok. But in the cockpit there is a narrower FOV than in 16:9 at 1080p. In particular the right side of the cockpit is cut off so I cannot see all of the heat signature and legal status panels.

I am living with it for now as I play in windowed mode to overcome the alt-tab problem (and a 1080p window is way too small!), but I hope we'll see 2560x1600 fully supported at some point.

Ditto 16:10 screen 1920 x 1200 not displaying correctly

I'm having the same problems with my DELL 27 " 1900 x1200 monitor.
The cockpit instruments on the right side are chopped off - so its very annoying.

I'm thinking of upgrading the monitor to a DELL 30" U3014 Ultrasharp 2560 x 1600 (16:10) - so i'd like to think that Frontier will fix the FOV issue by game release - as stated in earlier posts.

I have used a very handy free utility called "Widescreen Fixer"
https://www.widescreenfixer.org/ which has many game profiles you can alter the FOV on. Its constantly updated - so may be an ED profile may get released for it.

What does that actually do?

It lets you play games in different FOV / Aspect ratios on your monitor - regardless of what resolution and aspect ratio your monitor is.

There is a whole list of game profiles - that are included - and the program is updated regularly.

Some games - look better than others at certain Aspect ratios etc.
But I've been able to get some game titles to display a wider FOV on my 1920 x 1200 - than normal.... which can be a big advantage, certainly in flight sims or FPS games.

Take a look at the site, its free to use.

Doesn't this make the view look odd? eg: If you're cramming in say a 2560x1200 FOV into 1920x1200, then clearly everything will be squished horizontally?

Just a quick aside on a related topic:

I'm using 1920x1080 in windowed mode until 1920x1200 is properly supported. This has the added bonus of allowing you to quit cleanly from some network related hangs by simply closing the window.

This is exactly what I am doing too. It has the benefit of streaming in a good aspect ratio for twitch/youtube without black bars, and more importantly allows me to switch to other apps without crashing.

I will go back to 1920x1200 fullscreen when the FOV and crashing issues are sorted however.

Do you suffer with a lower FOV with it than with a regular 16:9 (1920x1080) monitor, like most games? ie: You can see less left & right, when infact logic should dictate you should see the same left and right, but even more up and down!

Logic doesn't dictate only one outcome. You should, all other things being equal, either see the same fov up and down and less left and right OR more fov up and down and the same left and right.

Definately alright now in the latest Beta - 16:10 display better than 16:9 :)
