Horizons 1ly in supercruise

Imagine you can accelerate to the max supercruise speed (2001c) instantly how long would it take to travel 1 ly? (I got about 1.8 days but that didn't seem right.)

I heard way back on release that someone SC'd to a neighbouring system but that the system wasn't rendered when he 'arrived' I wonder if that's changed at all, possible now?

No, it's a limitation of the game. If you don't jump, the game does not instantiate the system, because the jump is really a 'loading screen' for the next system.

The jump provides a trigger for the Stellar forge to provide the system data....

Has someone tested if the fuel use for a jump goes down if you creep closer to a neighbouring system using supercruise?

Hey, that would be an interesting mechanic, use SC instead of HD to get to a nearby scoop able star if there is not enough fuel for the jump. But i think it would be way to much effort to implement in relation to the use.

Not too much if you are out of fuel 50kly from home though!
It would be a great game mechanic to have "just in case".

Yep...there are a couple of systems that are 'close' to each other making it feasible to fly between them (not sure what they're called, but they're in the bubble). They tried SCing to one, and made it, but as has been mentioned, nothing was there as the jump and witch-space is the loading screen of the next system.

They also tried exactly what you've described...once they arrived at where the system should be, they initiated the jump and the fuel usage was the same as if they'd jumped from the origin system.

There are bigger issues to worry about but i hope some day the devs can "fix" this.

But first the body kit for my Asp E

it didn't back in 1.0 when I messed up a refit with too short a jump range to leave the system and tried to fly part of the way out - just gave me the normal exceeds message even if I was closer than my max jump range

what youve all been saying was kinda my thinking if the supercruising closer to the star is possible (which idk if it is or not) that could decrease the jump range (possibly) therefor if you outfitted a craft with fuel tanks you could make larger jumps than your frame shift drive would allow closer to the original star. Yes it may take 4hrs 23mins per ly but maybe it could help in the search for the formadine rife (dunno how its spelt) currently you can jump about 120ly with a J3 jumponium boost and engineer mods and i wonder how far is possible if this works

thats annoying if it is that case but regardless im testing it now

Only 1 LY?
Amateur. I did 3 LY on a wild goose chase.

Oh, and it still required the same fuel use as if I'd been at the jump-in point.
