1st Exploration Trip....so many questions....

After a month of trading my @ss off to get an fully equipped Asp for exploration, I decided to tread the waters by going to the Pleiades.

Last post of civilization I touched was 64 Arietis. Then, off I went to meet the nebula up close. Excited to enter unknown space, finally to be alone with the galaxy, and the creation of it all, admiring the...wait...is that an NPC interdicting me, like 200 ly away from civilization????....what? another one kinda pacing thru this system as if it was trading??....wth??? I'm supposed to be alone!! no one has gotten here before!!! this is virgin space!! this is...:::throws headphones and joystick to the floor in a tantrum:::....

Questions I should have asked before, or if I did, I still got no answer:

1-Why if other people have gone to the Pleiades -or many places, for that matter- and explored, came back and sold the data, it is still unavailable for me?? (and by that, I mean I can't not even purchase geo data!).

2-If that's so, what effect has on others, or the Galaxy, that I go exploring and come back to sell it? Who's going to have access to that info?? Who's going to be benefit from it??

3-Because of those two blurry points, how the heck do we know we are admiring a system for the first time and not a place that many, many others have passed thru before??

4-Why oh why! are there NPC trying to interdict me, or effectively doing so, attacking me in the middle of nowhere????? I'm a scientific ship!!! I left all my "spice" back home cause, you know, there is nobody out there trying to kill me hundreds of ly from civilization!!!! I DIDN'T COME XPECTING THAT!!! IT IS KILLING THE IMMERSION FOR ME!!!...is that a bug?? should I make a ticket or is this something we all explorers have to deal with???

5-Please restrict those NPC's -and also USS as well- from showing up in uncharted territory!!!! They are not supposed to be there!!

:::deep sigh:::

Listen, this is not a game breaker for me, but I need time to process and come to terms that most likely "FREE WILLY" Pirate Sidewinder will be harassing me to the end of the Galaxy, regardless he has no business whatsoever trying to get a loot from me since I carry none or being able to fight back cause I can't, before I can continue my exploration trips....

Thanks...

1 2 3 - data someone sold is not available for you so you can explore and make profit for system someone has already visited.
4 5 - there are no npcs beyond 500 ly from inhabited space

Welcome to Exploring Commander!

Exploring is currently un-loved by FD but I guess at some point, Exploring will get a cuddle... Until then though, it's tough!

1) You cannot buy Player Data - Player exploration data is not shared - online or 'solo'

2) No effect - No Benefit - No-one

3) We Don't - well apart from You Tube and this forum.

4) NPC's used to populate EVERY SINGLE system all 400 Billion! - They now only Populate a radius of 500ly from the nearest station. So after 500ly you will be ALONE.

5) See 4 - That Includes USS

I'll give you a heads up - You won't enjoy selling your data either!

Hey Kancro

On the NPC, you simply dint go far enough out. They stop being there 300-400 ly away from civilization and then you are truly alone. No need to bring guns really, just a small shield. I went out to California, over to the Horsehead and back from there. It was great suddenly see NPCs again knowing I was close to home :-D

i would not use macro to sell data... someon on other post said that he used voice comm macro to sell all and then he didnt know the value of some systems he was interested in... so its nice click a lot minigame :p
would be nice to be able to ctrl+click or shift+click to mark more systems than one to sell few at a time but oh well...

made me nervous all that data in my ship data storage and few interdictions before getting to a station ;)

Slightly off-topic, but gonna ask anyway... in case Nutter or someone else (preferably a frontier dev!) well versed in exploration in ED comes and sees this thread again: Is there any information how/if the exploration progress is handled in the world simulation at all? That is, for example, if I find a terraformable planet, and sell the information about it to faction X, is it probable that faction X will start colonization expedition assuming it's in their interests. And stuff like that, you can probably extrapolate a bit what I'm after here :)

I'd assume the servers do keep track of what information has been sold where, they likely have pretty detailed logs of everything happening in game after all. So even if there's nothing currently, we might hope for future development? :)

Always nice to carry guns... I don't Care if there is nothing! What if I want to carve "OneAmongOthers" was here in some random asteroid?

I *think* expansion to wholly uncharted/recently-charted waters is manually controlled (at the moment, at least).

if one have sh** load of data on board worth millions of millions of CR one does not fight. one runs. so i understand if someone runs with shields or maybe some defensive weapons. but not guns. what do you do if u fight back and get damaged thrusters canopy or other vital thing and you are to far to dock. or maybe get sensors damaged and can fly to a station but cant dock ? explorer does not fight back.. explorer runs... full power to engines at all times

Just to add though - your reputation goes UP with which ever faction you sell to - hope that helps :) - The rest is in FD's to do list I think :)

Master Nutter!!! I have read your threads!! and I follow your guide to exploring to the "T"..thanks for the reply...

So...it is a shame there is no really impact of our actions as explorers...I mean...there are 400 billion systems... do we need to make them "sellable" more than once?? come on now!!

At least I know the NPC's will go away with the USS after a few more hundred ly. That's a relief.

Thank you Badda...got it now... will select a farther place to run away from the civilization madness!!! :)

I have envisioned that the game should bring professions together for expansion.

In very rough, general idea, this should happen:

1-Explorer identifies suitable system for expansion (metallic, rocky, terraforming, or earth like planets).
2.-Explorer sells data. Faction issues mission to drop a "probe" or "explorer's kit" in the discovered system. The mission is visible throughout all the stations of that allegiance. (these two points would give exploring a sense)

3.-Probe or starter kit is placed in the system. Now another mission is issued for traders and cargo cmdrs to transport x amount of fuel and medicine -for example- to the "probe" against a hefty payment -500k-1MM cr depending on distance.
4.-Once the "probe" gets enough amount of the required commodities, it becomes a pad, able to refuel and repair ships. It does now requires, x amount of minerals/metals for development, paying 4x the metal/mineral ton. Now miners have mission too, albeit they have to travel the distance, they will be able to refuel and repair.

5.-With all these traders and miners bringing so much goods to a small, very weak spot, pirates should take note of it through the bulletins announcing missions for the pioneers of system X. If none human, after certain level of traffic, some npc pirates should "blossom".
6.-Once 5 happens, now missions to defend space and traders in the new system are issued, placing bounties or requiring x amount of kills. Payout 5x than regular missions in civilized space. 5 and 6 should provide plenty of fun for the pew pew gamers.

7.-After a certain quota of materials -all of which are requested via bulletin by the faction/allegiance- is acquired, the pad becomes an Outpost, and a trading market can be established. A yet higher milestone down the road -one that could take weeks in accumulate- could be that outpost eventually becomes a station.

Voila! Explorers, Traders, Pirates, Bounty Hunters, Miners, Factions, and the 400 billion stars would be involved in the mechanics of the expansion, without requiring a player to own a station. Actions of players should make civilization expand.

War for resources in a infinite galaxy seems, quite honestly, far fetched. But the greed of a few rogues, or pariahs, will take thousands and thousands of years to overcome, if ever. Hence pirates.

That's right!!! I took shields with me for this very reason!!! I just submit to interdiction as soon as possible, so my FSD can cool down by the time the start shooting and off I go, back into SC in no time!!!

Also, we don't carry guns because it makes our ships lighter and able to reach a longer range!!!

This was more or less the original idea about exploration and expansion, and hopefully it'll happen somewhere down the line.

Heh. Wait until you get to the Pleiades. I arrived a day ago to discover that there were a number of "permit only" systems already established. Obviously you're not THAT far off the beaten path yet.

There are a bunch of systems in every nebula that I've come across that are off limits that way, for future content and stuff.
