1vs1: Vulture vs Fer de Lance

Let's see the general opinion. I have both and they are very different ships. The FdL is extremely tanky and has great firepower, and fares fine vs multiple smaller ships, but the Vulture has good weapons and amazing maneuvrability.

Who do you think will win most fights 1vs1 given equal pilot skills?

Given equal pilot skill the FDL pilot will quickly realize that the Vulture is really annoying in the hands of a skilled pilot and he or she will leave to find more profitable endeavors, while the Vulture will go back to doing whatever it was doing.

It depends on the ship's loadout then if the pilots are of an equal skill level chap. 4 D2 beams and a C3 beam on a FDL would quickly melt a Vulture. But if the Vulture sticks with E3 pulses on his ship he can add some shield boosters to it to help. Also a Vulture with C3 beams is a devastating little ship, if you can keep out of the FDL's blue sweet spot of turning then it's perfectly able to destroy a FDL, Python or even larger prey.
EDIT...keep both, I did, they both serve a slightly different foe, the Vulture a killer to all little ships, and the FDL is a medium gun platform that worries even the largest ship in game.

It's things like this that make me wish this game had a training area like Planetside 2. We could fly the different ships, test out different loadouts, all without worrying about losing hard earned money.

There are pros and cons to ED's system.

Those that have real experience have real experience.

it will be a draw because the combat styles of both ships are not compatible

the vulture wants to be close to get the advantage of its manouverability
the FDL wants to prevent that and will go boom and zoom or reverse

both pilots will give up out of frustration

Ok so my feeling is that if the FdL gets in a turning battle it will die for sure, but if the pilot is clever he will just reverse and facetank the Vulture killing it with its superior weaponry and tanking ability.
Of course in a non fight-to-the-death scenario, the losing party wouldn't have much difficulties just leaving the battlefield.

false....the vulture will die if it tries to leave the battlefield. the FDL masslocks it and a single PA hit in the back of the vulture renders it disabled.
many many vultures died in front of my nose because they tried to run ;-)

the FDL just jumps out if it needs to. thats the main advantage of this ship.

I'd like this too. It's the only way I may ever fly some ships as I don't have beta access.

The problem with this is, if you have a PA on the FdL, you are basically limiting yourself to just the 4 C2 hardpoints, as you will never manage to hit the Vulture with the PA if he knows what he is doing.

This thread is starting to read like one of those "who would win? Robocop vs Batman" discussions. I suspect that when you're not flying the forum, an awful lot depends on the individual pilots.

I always survive, no matter what ship I'm in, but that's a boring answer.

I have both having just picked up the FDL. I liked both but what I missed with the vulture was the flexibility of 4 hard points allowing lasers and projectiles or lasers and missiles. The vulture is also very much power limited so the equipment is limited to what you can power far more than other ships in a similar way to the Viper. FDL's fuel tank is a bad joke and price is excessive.

In the end MY style made the FDL the winner (with 2x beams and 2x multi-cannons plus one huge plasma accelerator!) and I have the vulture moth-balled at my home port (everything downgraded to lowest spec E or sold) so that I can re-build it later if I change my mind or sell in to upgrade the Python to an Anaconda later.

If you can stick to someone's six and they're not using turrets then surely the Vulture will come out on top because of manoeuvrability.
