2.1.03 and explorer safety returning to bubble

Been skimming the long patch notes. This caught my eye:

- When determining the rank of NPC ships for interdiction, use the player's combat rank, rather than their highest PF rank, although add 1 rank if their trade or exploration rank is higher than their combat rank

I thought they used highest rank for a long time, so does this mean a reduction in NPC threat?

I've still not experienced any combat since 2.1 but it looks like there have been some balance work put in (some might call them nerfs). So this might take a bit of pressure off...

It's not so good for me - I'm 92% Dangerous now :( I don't really gain a whole lot as it adds a level as I'm Elite in exploration

Combat is dead as of 2.1.03. The NPCs are same as 2.0 now. They won't even chase you anymore. I am almost Deadly and pledged to power play and my Exploration ranks is higher than my Combat rank, and even a Control Wystem with hostile NPCs and I get nothing but Harmless and Competent NPCs.

If you're Pledged to a Power then NPC are 10% easier (see notes).

I'm happy with 2.0 as I know I can survive that :) I just need to get back before everyone else complains it is too easy now and they un-nerf it.

I'm still 42k ly out and exploring nebula, but I'm interested in others experiences coming back.

I'm dangerous in combat so would be facing decent NPCs.

But I'm undecided in calling in escort.. would prefer to do it all on my own. But if it's too dangerous...

i read this to mean they are toning the npcs down. It seems that previously if you were an elite explorer and harmless in combat you would still get an elite npc. Now you will only get a mostly harmless npc interdicting you.

Well, it sure beats being interdicted only by Deadly rank Gunships or Vultures as I've been experiencing ever since 2.0.

You guys realize we are on 2.1.03 now right? lol. Just don't go on the main forum and say "I am happy with 2.0". You will be filleted.

Might I suggest missions with high-rank requirements? You'll see a lot of dangerous and very persistent NPCs while flying them. It's quite fun. Unless you're trying to scoop up a handful of free-falling experimental chemicals while being chased by an "I want to reach out and touch someone" Dangerous Annie and its five Eagle friends, a point at which the game became both creepy and exhilarating.

My reply was in the context of others describing 2.1.03 as being like 2.0. I know I can cope with 2.0.
