2.1/1.6 Stopping people playing?

Hi,

I took a break from ED for a few months because things were beginning to feel very stale, empty and rinse repeat.

Ive been looking at the 2.1/1.6 updates and they seem pretty good, hopefully they will fix the mission issues etc.

Only thing is, i sit here with nothing to do and think, shall i play ED?

And then i think, no i cant be bothered, ill wait for 2.1/1.6...

So basically knowing this update is coming, is making me want to play ED even less!

Wonder what the player numbers are like these days, might see a big spike when 2.1 comes out.[up]

Not played ED in several months. The current batch of live streams and other snippets of info are in fact making me want to play just now. But waiting on seeing if I'm working this afternoon, waiting for the snow to thaw out a little.

We always see old players coming back when an update is released. I think many will come back, including me. Because of the extensive update to AI and bug fixing. And off course all the new content. I don´t play much these days. I´ve been playing since I was 16 and i´m having a gaming crisis. 22 years of gaming and still going. It makes me look for something special. ARK was special but not anymore :p E.D is special because of the scale and potential. If Frontier delivers what the fans want they could go on forever. I always come back to quality and good updates. E.D has both :)

For me it's the other way around. I stopped playing for a while. Nothing to do with Elite, just have a lot of other games on my Steam account waiting to be played.

But this week I started playing again trying to get the feel for my ships again so I can enjoy 2.1 better when it drops.

Well, I've been playing the game for over 1 year, non-stop (& loving it), so I felt it was a good opportunity to take some time off & play other games. I'd go back in now, but feel fairly certain that I will be deleting my save file....so that I can experience all these great new features as a newbie!

I must admit I can't see much point in logging on at the moment. The next update sounds like such a big improvement in most of the areas that interest me that I'm left just twiddling my thumbs.

I had a break mainly because of very heavy work stress. But today we did it, we just released a huge software update that had a fixed deadline, so have been burning the candle at both ends. After 3 months solid work we got there with Minutes to spare :)
Anyway by the time I get home I cant be bothered doing anything at all. I Keep wanting to get into ED and make some money, so I can afford the new toys that will come with the update :) But I end up vegging on reddit or watching videos about the Vive. An falling asleep.
My Vive is on its way. It will be here in about 5 days. Just in time for some ED niceness. Hopefully the 2.1 will bring fixes for the vive res issues.

There are a number of fence sitters and interested onlookers, me included.
I will certainly give 1.6 a go, just as i have done with previous updates.
There will be an upward spike, and hopefully for ED a good number of returning people will play more regulary again after that, while others will likely return to the fence.
Either way, i won't have to "sit here with nothing to do".:)
Even if 1.6 doesn't draw me back in, there are always enough good games to keep me entertained.
Rest assured, in that case i'll have another look at the next update....no rush:)

I'm playing more because of the impending updates. I am out exploring, so I'm trying to get as far as possible before turning back. I figure I have about a week before I have to head back if I want to get to the bubble in time for the launch of 2.1.

I stopped for about 6-8 weeks at the end of Feb, when I saw there were no Dev Updates I also seemed to lose my motivation. But since we got that huge news letter I've been back on, preparing an all rounder ship to do the new missions, ice mining & upgrades through engineers.

It could also be because I played through the Division then realised it had zero end game and came crawling back to the crack addiction called Elite.

So actually I've started playing more since hearing more that it's being developed. I feel I have more motivation investing time in a game that I know is being properly developed.

Whippersnapper :)

I get bored when things are repetitive and ED has repetition en masse. So yeah, I played since early access when we got the deal with the free Eagle. Went on a long break though when I felt I was just treading the same water over and over.

It's the same missions, to do the same things, and only difference is the name of the systems.

Picked the game up again 2 days ago. So far it feels exactly the same as it did before I took a break. Only thing I found refreshing was the "Distress Call" where I found a ship needing fuel the first time I went in and I found a ship under attack by several waves of pirates the second time. I liked that. Why did I like it? Because it had a random element to it. That is all it takes to make the experience slightly more interesting.

If I know that every Distress Call is some dude wanting fuel then I stop going there. Plain and simple. But when there is a random event it makes things more interesting right away.

So why aren't missions like that? When I go to do a mission why isn't there A, B, C ... X, Y, Z different outcomes to that mission?

Depth and complexity.

The game is in dire need of this. Everything is so basic and single layered currently, and has been since it was released. Shoot 70 pirates. Transport 60 units of goods. Mine 50 ore. Doesn't help when the AI combat pilots are incompetent to the point where they sometimes don't even turn their ship but just fly in a straight line doing barrel rolls while spamming the comms with "I didn't see this coming". Please.

Last time I did a community goal I fell asleep in my chair while I was shooting an Anaconda. It was that easy to do combat.

Why not try the CG in open for a challenge I am sure you won't fall asleep

Guess it depends where the CG is.

I've been to CG's in open before. Flew in with two friends. Soon as a player entered the combat area we'd all target him and open comms. Most times they simply left (probably went to another hotspot), or they joined teams with us on the same faction, or they got blown up.

Anyways, you are right Open Play in CG's are more challenging. However, the fact that the game fails to provide enough challenge in itself and thus forcing you to prod other players into a confrontation to make things interesting just proves the point that the game in itself doesn't suffice and needs more challenges and variation to have any longevity.

I think the OP can't be bothered with this thread.
He will be back in 2.1 to see if there are any good updates
