2.1/1.6 Stopping people playing?

I truly appreciate what you are saying and im not in any way invalidating it...but, re ease in combat, im one of those that loves ease :D...power always follows ease and power is something i dont ease-ily fall asleep with but rather find deep appreciation for. Many games these days over react and create face palm difficulties - they tend to also have player base and $ issues as a result.

The issue I have with things becoming overly simplistic and easy is that it becomes a grind and a chore rather than fun and exciting.

I have no problems with Mostly Harmless and Competent NPCs being easy to destroy.

But when I face a Deadly or even Elite Vulture, Python or Anaconda and it provides less challenge in-game than my grandmother would (and she's dead by the way) then it becomes boring. Half the time when shooting NPCs I feel like I am suffering through an imposed time delay where the outcome is inevitable and it simply takes X amount of seconds before you manage to kill them.

There is zero fun in killing an Anaconda when the only challenge suffering through the X amount of seconds or minutes to make it go *pop*, then find the next one and suffer through another X amount of seconds or minutes until it goes *pop*. I end watching Netflix on my other monitor more than I am watching the game itself.

An Elite rated Vulture should wreck 9 out of 10 players any time of the day. You should FEAR high ranked NPCs in proper ships. But the game does not make you fear anything whatsoever. Hell, the greatest fear anyone have in this game is accidentally clicking their boost button while inside the station with a cargohull full of expensive goods.

Well said. There's no gut wrenching fear associated with fighting any of the NPCs. I don't even bother looking at their ratings anymore before engaging them. The only real challenge comes from other Cmdrs but 90% of the player base seem to have a deep-seated hatred of PvP. Fear of being beaten by another player seems to be the issue.

Yeah but the problem with commanders is the ramming, they know that even if your a better pilot than them, if their ship hull mass is greater they can just ram you if they are losing, thats why the clipper was so popular, fast, strong shields and decent hull mass, makes it an ideal ramming machine

So skill there really, just exploiting game mechanics to upset even more players

I don't need new content to keep playing the game.
I need existing stuff and features fixed / tweaked or refreshed. Why has there been so much development time invested into Power Play / CQC if it is to let them rot while they deserved to be masterpieces?

By the sound of it, I am not exited about 2.1 and am actually progressively quitting the game at the moment.

Only thing is, i sit here with nothing to do and think, shall i play ED?

And then i think, no i cant be bothered, ill wait for 2.1/1.6...

Basically this at the moment. Even PvP is boring for me ATM and I pay more attention to other games. 2.1 sounds promising, especially with missions but if they still don't do something about the "Money making business missions" which reward a lucrative plus of 531cr then the depth can be as good as a real life simulation, if the reward is not worth my time I will simply not touch it and as it stands now Elite has a habbit to cap the income to a cr/h statistic which makes it feel so grindy.
There are no incredible rare missions that pay out 10-100m of credits. Like "Oh I have found an ancient artifact of the old ages of humanity!" ... this triggers a mission where you are offered stuff from interested merchants.
But obviously it is just "Do X and get Y" Accept? (y/n)
Also for the engineers weapon and module storage is a must. Otherwise why bothering upgrading? I don't wnat to run through the damn bubble everytime I want to outfit a ship with a new loadout.

Weapon trading with players would also be a thing.

However, Elite in general got a little boring for me.
Sure, you could argue after approximately 1000 hours a player might lose interest but the reasons for that exist since hour 1.

Everytime I think about doing something in Elite I ask myself "Why should I do this? What is the benefit? Is it worth my time? Do I achieve enough progress in this time?" and usually the answer is "I don't know."
Trading? Too boring
Exploring? Too boring
Smuggling? Too random/usage of unrealism (logging to stack missions/relog to avoid scans as NPCs ignore SR)
Combat? Too easy (PvE)
PvP? No influence
PowerPlay? Merits decay, doesn't influence anything, already got enough credits
Community events? No official rankings/prices
CQC? Way too easy

So I end up floating through the darkness of space and looking for someone to chat. But I guess I can do that in any given game :)

The argument about depth recieves more and more importance the wider Frontier makes the pool.

For me its terrible! I've still got so many things i want to do before 2.1 hits... once 2.1 hits ill get distracted with all the new shinies!

Here's hoping beta lasts a few months :D

Or so they claim. :/

Its a trade-off, mouse gives considerably better aim, but HOTAS has great smooth throttle control. Its pretty easy to spot which people are using from a video for example, joysticks overshoot when making small adjustments to aim which causes issues when very close to targets, so in a vid if it seems like they move in stages it'll be a joystick user (generally, some have slowdown switches like sniper buttons on mice)

I think both are viable as long as your comfortable with them, I suspect just more people use mouse/kb is why most of the pvp'ers do :p

Oh damn, I wanted to keep my previous post short, and you have said it all right after mine! :)
Yep...I'm feeling depressed now...this game could have kept me playing for so much longer, if only the right things would change the right way... :-/

For me, it affects my decision at the point that I can sit at my desk and think about how I want to spend my free time.

I've got (yet another) a campaign going in TIE Fighter, but the constant crashes in the GOG version on W10 hinders that decision, somewhat.

Running through Ocarina Of Time (annual play through)...very likely nothing else gets done until 100% completion.

And Elite Dangerous, just made Earl and am holding off on that until the new missions in 2.1. I've got enough saved for the Cutter. Really, all I'm going to do in Elite are CGs, RES hunting or in-bubble exploration. So, as far as progression towards something goes, I'm pretty much on pause with Eilte.

Also, trying to reestablish myself on Discovery Freelancer...and that isn't going very well as it doesn't seem to call to me anymore since I no longer lead the Rhineland Federal Police or play with the group of people I played with before. Ohhh, nostalgia

If I weren't playing Ocarina of Time right now, I'd probably be splitting time 50/50 between TIE Fighter and Elite Dangerous. Once 2.1 comes out though, Lord Vader is going to have to wait for my return after I've gotten the Cutter. I'm sure he'd understand.

Was going to go exploring after Christmas, but when I realised the spawns on the planets were the same as the ones in the bubble I decide to take a rest after nothing but ED for about 18 months. Finally got round to playing XCOM! I guess the lack of info from Frontier didn't help, but I'm getting interested again and will probably spool up the drives when 2.1 lands.

Yeah, that's one of the things that put me off too. Realising that they hadn't taken the time to even customise the RNG for the planetside content to account for the type of system the planet was in just made that content a complete joke.

I just hope the BETA lasts until I get back from SAG A* which will take a month for me. I don't want to lose all my data with new NPCs that are unforgiving.

Yeah because its a crime to be bored by doing the same thing over and over with little to no variety.

Then don't.....quite simple really.

For me it was a sudden drop in frame rate, on my computer, that finally made me decide to take a short break from E: D. However, now I am seriously going back in as a Newbie :).
