2.1 Beta Actually - Who is it released to and when

Hi Guys

I am a little confused. I purchased the Horizons upgrade in January 16 & bought Elite in December 14 on launch.

But who is the 2.1 Beta release for in early May? Is this for everyone with a Horizons Season pass or is it for people who have a special access to the Beta version of the game. I remember that when I purchased Horizons there was a more expensive getting earlier beta versions. Does this still hold.

Sorry if this is a little bit of a newbie question but it doesn't feel clear to me.

Thanks

Kaid

There were two versions of Horizons, Horizons and Horizons Beta, Horizons Beta was a tenner extra.

You're only in the beta if you bought the beta version.

It looks like beta will be sometime next week.

You *might* be able to upgrade to beta by sending a message to support and paying the extra, not sure. But I'm guessing you might not be able to since (for some odd reason) beta isn't actually for sale any more, surely if they were able to add people into beta at this time they'd be selling it?

I think if you have the Season Pass you're okay. I bought beta access to Horizons myself, but if you have the non-beta version (which you can check in the Frontier store) you won't have access to the beta.

Edit: I meant lifetime pass, not just the Horizons season

Hi,

I made an FAQ for the previous beta, some information is no longer accurate as it was specific to that beta, links for example don't all work anymore but the broad general information is good: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=204160

Here's an excerpt:

Betas are usually announced in advance in developer updates, livestreams and/or newsletters with the exact timing posted in the News and Updates sub-forum shortly before release. The date a beta test is released is not always a set number of days/weeks before release and changes dependent on development and the size of the update.
The patch notes section is also updated shortly before release listing the changes made between the live build and the update. Finally as the beta becomes available there will be two new sub-forums created, the update bug-reporting sub-forum and the update discussion sub-forum.
Inside the bug-reporting sub-forum there will be a “Known Issues” thread (stickied) detailing any bugs or problems that are known about by the Dev team. There is also a bug-reporting template thread stickied which greatly helps Developers to and fix bugs.

Who has beta access:
Beta access is usually closed access and limited to those who have the lifetime expansion pass (either premium backer or separate purchase) or those who have purchased the season of content with beta access. An example of this is Season 2 Horizons which was sold with and without beta access.
For more details on who has what access see here.
Once the beta is live it can be synced and updated via the launcher and shows up separately on the launcher. This occurs identically on the steam launcher where applicable. Note, some large beta updates require manual downloading of the new launcher from Frontiers store, this is usually announced in advance.

The beta option is removed after the beta period has ended, the end date is not always stated in advance. In the past releases have gone live the same day the beta ended, however, this is not always the case.

Open betas have occurred which are available to everyone with the game for stress-testing although this is not guaranteed and rare as beta’s go.

This beta is set for release sometime next week (date unknown, if development slips it could be the week after). Currently beta is no longer on sale as Horizons swapped to DLC rather than an entirely separate game so it stopped being sold.

Beta access to Horizons 2.1 (and I guess 1.6) is for Horizons Beta owners or with the original season pass, premium beta or alpha access.

I don't suppose people with just standard beta (non-horizons) will have access to 1.6 beta (since this is in the 2nd season)?

I believe 1.6 falls under the original category as it's the base game without Horizons content. Meaning if you have Horizons beta, you don't qualify for 1.6 beta testing. That's what 2.1 is for.
