Engineers 2.1 has changed my game.

Yes it has changed the entire game for me, and i think most players need to think about changing their play style to match.
I see a lot of post on here complaing that they don't like 2.1, AI too hard, can't find materials, engineers too much of a grind ect.
I stopped playing ED for a few months before this patch, i found the grind for credits too much of a ...well grind just for credits, and i had enough cash for my needs. I tried the beta for only a few days then waited for the release.

The game has changed with 2.1, for me it is much better, no longer am i grinding for credits, yes the grind is still there, and more maybe, but, now i see a reason for scooping stones off planets, i see a reason for going into nav beacons and res sites, i see a reason for checking out the USS in SC I don't see it so much as a grind no more. Today i have had the longest session ever, 10hrs straight. Combat in USS and nav zones, mining in the rings, searching mats on planets, all things i saw no reason to do before. Yes i wanted material for the mods, but never searched for any in particular, just play the game and the materials will come with everything, lots of them in mining, lots when you destroy other ships, lots when you scan things, and a good asortment in the USS's.

The credits grinding is gone, but we now have other reasons and the game of making our ships the best they can be, but do it as you play, they will come. I am already at level 3 with 2 engineers, in one day. But the overal idea i think is that this is supposed to take us all a long time.
The AI i found a mixed bunch, some i met were easy, as easy as before, only the ones with the upgrades posed a threat, i knew straight away by the attack warnings and beam color, yes my shields and hull went down quick, even in my Python and Conda, but i still managed to get out of there, did not die once today, and i am only a Master rank.

I believe if you change your play style to embrace and adapt to the changes, you might even find you enjoy it, i know i
did.

word up Nosscar! Rep inbound. We have a new rule: Wing up and get good as it is dangerous out there!
My group is loving it!
Fight on Commander!
ps. Hell, once the aliens invade can you imagine the complaining?!? We have to change!

Hear, hear!

Also don't tab out and read forum posts while flying away from a station, like I just did reading this thread.
Tabbed back in to find my engines disabled and a Sirius Security FDL tearing my hull apart, followed by a 2,2 million rebuy. The first I've had in months. [hotas]

haHa, so sorry mate, lol. Yes i think if you just choose a material and go searching, then that feels like a grind and is hard to find it. Just play the game, lots of materials will come, then see what you can make with what you have, keep playing and they will build up over time, this way is more fun, no rush to get them, if you are out matched in a fight by the modded AI ships, then just get the hell out of there, your day will come.

Absolutely! A mate and I are now "forced" to wing up to protect each other. Its changed our whole approach. We have a whole new respect for the term Dangerous.

Its awesome! :D

Ps. Have some rep!

2.1 is indeed a game changer BUT we did NOT pay for this and had no choice upon it being changed. It should have had ADD-ONS but keep it playable. They were to add matching Rank difficulty but in many cases they are not only mismatched (as bullies) but they have all the illusive MODs now needed that we must grind for.
* Our ships do not match theirs
* Our Ranks are often outclassed
* Our Vanilla Upgrades are outmatched by their MODs
GAME IS NOT WORKING AS INTENDED.

Well actually we paid for Frontiers vision of the game they wanted to make. I believe that the modded ships are not as abundant, if any in the 1.6 version, so players who don't like the mods always have that option. But for me personally, and this is just my opinion, i feel ED was never Dangerous as it was intendd to be, we had it too easy, and maybe got too used to that, but i feel an excitement and risk in the game now i never felt before.
I think othjers maybe feel the same, but of course others will also agree with you, guess you really can't please everybody, so they just make the game as best as they feel they can.

There are a lot of negatives on the forum just now, but most of those enjoying the game are probably just happy enough not to comment on here, and are playing the game. Hope you find a way to enjoy the game though.

2.1 is a game changer.
And now when the new AI is here, the grinding sensation is all gone (I'm not talking Engineers), because before 2.1, you could just pewpew for hours upon hours without even feeling a slight bit of a challenge. Now, even a Sidewinder can be fun to kill. :D

Whoever coded the new AI, I have to tell that person he or she did a magnificent job.

Apart from the painfully obviously bugged NPC weapons that can kill players in a couple of seconds (which I have NOT run into myself), I haven't found the need for enhanced modules yet — Been flying my A-rated Clipper and doing bounty hunting all day.

At this rate, I can't see myself bothering with enhanced modules. Apart from maybe a convenience module, like FSD with longer range. (I travel back and fourth in the bubble a lot)

I was heavily challenged my the old elite, ran from about 30% of encounters. now I have to run from 100%. lost 27,000,000 in 2 days in insurance claims. out of cash so no elite for me until they create a difficulty setting of some sort so I can go back to Novice or super slow cruise mode. I tried helping my son with his account as well. after 3 weeks he has a sidewinder and 450k. he is the lowest of the low level. I died in his sidewinder 4/4 times in under 20secs to inderdictions from ships I had a chance to poke before the eject notice. thank god his ship is 5000 to rebuy. loosing my fed corvette to an eagle cost me 14 mil. yesterday.

Sorry to hear mate... I don't think difficulty settings can ever be present, unless FD is making the outer regions of the bubble harder and tougher, but more profitable.
Interdictions however have always been a joke. I flee from all of them. Every time.

I too am enjoying everything about the new 2.1 update. Really like the new missions board and those changes. And earning a small fortune as my rep is super high with one station in particular.
Res sites are now to be entered with trepidation and full focus, I like this and now see it as an added opportunity for collecting scans and materials.
Have not been to any engineer shops yet as I'm quite happy building my stash of said mats and scans first. I view that part of the game as a slow burn branch, gradually improving my favorate ships over time.

Enjoying the improved visuals also. So on the whole all very very good and slowly taking it all in.
Flimley.

Sarah Jane is Mistress of Minions and I believe in charge of the team? See https://mobile.twitter.com/sarahjaneavory
i love her....

have played since release and racked up over 2000 hrs, now we have a living breathing game. now the npc's bring a gun to a knife fight, interdictions by elite anacondas, npc's that aren't stupid anymore, oh damn now I have to fly with diligence oh my. I as many had got complacent with the easy a.i. and this has been an eye opener for me and I'm sure for many others... good! Now we pull up our big boy pants hold tighter to the stick and have the time of our lives! rethink your missions, your load outs and ship choices and enjoy the game, it has changed, yes more challenging but more immersing than ever before. what you did last Wednesday ain't the same anymore and it's refreshing to break the rut I know some (including myself) lazily gotten into.

2.1 has also changed my game for the better. I rethink my ways of ship outfitting, even what ship I choose for a task. I now take note of the system security levels, the ranking of the ships around me.

Most interesting so far for me is the local reputation. This was not as evident before, not as clearly visible regarding who I was working a mission for, or why. A good chuck of my attention is now paid to developing these things across a few systems that offer things I enjoy such as mining and surface based SRV salvage play.

Not to mention the many small detail touches in 2.1... Lots of great work, FD!

Another way my game has changed is in the ships i use now. I used to love my Python, but not bothered with it in a long while.
But you can now mod your ships weaknesses, to make them viable again.

Now your fav ships can become great again. I re-bought my python with the aim of eventually having the mods to make it longer range and more manoeuvrable and upgraded for combat. I will use my Anaconda for mining and trading, adding mods that benefit this type of career, i will mod my Asp for less weight and longest jump range for exploring.
Now you truly need to keep your ships and make each one right for the task. One thing we really need now though, is more material storage, and station module storage.

I agree with Nasscar's OP.

I just had to rebuy my Corvette because I overlooked an unfriendly faction that decided to kill me in my favourite Compromised Navigation Beacon scene. I had to decide to go from 4 combat ships to 2 combat ships (sell Vulture and Clipper, keep Corvette and Courier) to get some safety money in the bank. Also I decided to focus on my Empire CNB and leave my Federation foothold because it would take ages to build up rep with the Comorra in the Federation system so that they stop harrassing me.

In other words, the game has changed and I am regrouping. Which is fine.

Initial changes I made to the Corvette seem to be quite effective (turrets, hull reinforcement, C4 beam). Now saving up for a few engineer mods.
The Courier is more brilliant than it was, and really an encouragement to switch from tank style combat to fighter style combat.

Same with me. I'm flying my Asp much more often and I've hardly touched the Conda since 2.1 went live. Today, I'll be flying my DBX which I've always found a joy to fly, but I've not used in a couple months
