2 years ago I was happy when I could return back to the ELITE universe. I had a lot of fun playing it.
I liked the realism of this space simulation. By now, I'm starting to hate it.
When we look at today's ways to figure out what stars have planets. We are even at the point to get a good picture of their material composition using e.g. spectral analysis (if that's the correct english translation).
I know that knowledge can get lost over time. So in 3302 the people have to drive randomly to planets / asteroids and get tiny fragments of materials while the whole planet/asteroid is made of SOME stuff. BTW: There is no such element as "rock" in the periodic table of elements. Rock itself is made of elements. So, rather than using RNG, have the pilots use:
a) means of discovering materials you actually need (deterministic, not random).
b) means to extract what you need (skip the rest).
There is a wide range of ways how to make these steps not too easy and still enjoy it.
I must say that I agree with Kornelius Briedis video and think about stopping my career in ED and move on to some other space sim.
