CQC 2.2 CQC Beta Testing - Saturday Sept 24th 12pm EST/5pm BST

Hey everyone,

On Saturday September 24th we are looking to gather a group of CQC players with beta access to test the 2.2 build of CQC.

The major goal of the exercise is to avoid the situation that occurred with 2.1, where CQC launched with major game breaking bugs because they were not caught in beta. Remember those super overpowered heat beams that took two months to fix? How about that problem that is still the bane of our collective existences where bugged lobbies leave us waiting to start a match even with a full room? If only we had caught those things in the 2.1 beta!

Well, now the 2.2 beta is here, and the hope is that we can give the CQC module a good going over this Saturday, and identify any major bugs that may need fixing before 2.2 rolls out to everyone.

Of course, until bots are added [hint hint Fdev], we can’t play CQC by ourselves, so this is where we need your help. If you have beta access and want to help us test, please let us know below and come join us this Saturday.

We will start at 12 pm EST/ 5pm BST on Saturday September 24th. At the moment, we are looking at making it a two hour session, but we will see how it goes. If we’re having fun, we may just keep playing.

We will use discord to stay in touch and coordinate while we play. Here is the link to the server: https://discord.gg/JCMShJg

Testing deathmatch will require a minimum of 4 players, while testing team deathmatch will require a minimum of 6. The bigger the group the better however, so we hope that you can join us! At the very least it will be fun, and we will be saving ourselves a heap of annoyance and frustration in the future if we help start 2.2 with a clean, smoothly working build of CQC!

How to participate:

  • On Saturday September 24th at 12 pm EST/ 5pm BST join the discord (https://discord.gg/JCMShJg) for coordination information and chat, and log into CQC (Arena) on the beta build!

  • Have fun!

TLDR:

What: Beta Testing the 2.2 build of CQC
When: Saturday September 24th, 12 pm EST/ 5pm BST
Where: 2.2 Beta CQC module and on discord here: https://discord.gg/JCMShJg
Why: Because we do not want to start 2.2 with CQC badly bugged (I’m looking at you 2.1)!

Good plan. Wish I had beta so I could help, but I don't so I can't.

You may want to put this on Reddit as well, maybe snag a few more people.

By the way, I have some specific stuff I would appreciate getting tested.

1. Are beams still missing targets frequently, even when on target and there's no chaff or stealth or anything like that in play. See https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/286229-CQC-Eagle-Beam-against-iFighter-hitbox-failure

2. Is the Imperial Fighter ENG-focused power distributor still broken? While the Condor's variant loses WEP capacity and recharge as a tradeoff, the Imp's apparently does not. This means that when both a Condor and an Imp are using the ENG distributor, the Imp can fire for longer (by about 33%) and recharge to full faster. This may have been intentional (the Imp has its tradeoff in SYS capacity instead) but given the way CQC generally flows WEP matters much more than SYS. I consider it a bug in the ship balancing. Fix it and we might see a bit more variety in high-level play, instead of everyone flying the same Imperial Fighter. :)

No problem. I'll take a look at these.

Thanks to everyone who joined us! We did indeed find a few bugs, but thankfully nothing really major. I'll post links to the bugs that we reported bit later. Thanks again to everyone who participated!

Sorry I wasn't able to join guys but thanks for doing this. Out of interest, were you able to check if the heat beams are fixed?

No problem Scoopy. The heat beams appear to still be broken i.e. occasionally do no damage while clearly in contact with target ship.

Yes, the IMP still trades SYS efficiency for ENG efficiency, while the Condor trades weapon efficiency instead.

Thanks for checking on that. Not surprised, unfortunately, I doubt we're getting balance changes to CQC anytime soon. Sandro's comments on the last Beta Q&A stream made it sound like they wanted to nail down fighters in the main game before messing with CQC balance any more.
