2.2 - Did we peek at the Christmas Presents too early?

A lot of things are kicked off through Galnet. Current Salome stuff is playing out there.

But as a game developer you need to address the majority of the player audience, the ordinary player and not the tiny 1% of hardcore gamers. .

You are essentially saying that because you are not interested in a part of the game, and that you perceive it and the emergent plot as being something only a minority of players are passionate about that it should not be bothered with.
Well, by the same logic we should ditch piracy and mining, too. And everything except the two favoured persuits of pewpew and selling things.

Except Elite isn't supposed to be like that. It is supposed to be for a wide variety of play and play styles. It is supposed to include ALL of our 'stuff'. If it was just pandering to pew pew and trading it would not be a unique game. It would lose a maor selling point.

And if you want to cite it as not being resource efficient in terms of finance, I would argue that it is incredibly effective as regards PR and promoting the game, advertising it to new players. How many BBC articles have there been about bounty hunting in Elite, for example?

It's a pity you somehow misunderstood my reasoning. Maybe my mistake, not being clear enough. Unfortunately, I do not have much time right now to elaborate further more. All the best.

Cheers

Isn't this pretty much how it is already?

If you take away all external / 3rd party interaction with the game.. we trade and pew pew.

Frontier are creating new content all the time ( placing barnacles, ruins and organic life assets together could form new persistant sites at short notice anyway) as Fdev developmore more art assets, random mixiness of assets could generate new options. I think tis important that more deep space exploration occours

That's a pretty good summary of what I was saying. Content and assets are not the same thing, it's fine having the assets added but what I'd like to see is actual mechanic-driven gameplay which uses them. Barnacles are the defining example; yes they looked great and had some 'wow' factor when they first apeared but what gameplay was created there?
  • Look at barnacles
  • Scan barnacles
  • Shoot barnacles

+ 1 for What Red Anders said.

Im in awe of the meta gaming that some folks are capable of and yes the third party Apps are awesome. It's just that I'm a bit confused how to even contribute toward a subject I can't find in game and can't interact with in game. The only solution I have been able to arrive at for myself is pack my bags and head off to the Rift for the next year because that is still accessible to people, all I have to do is read a nice book and go look. Oh and solve some puzzles which are only available back in the local news feeds in the bubble, oh dear. How do I do that and look in the Rift?

Also, I only found the Rift because I'm using EDSM and EDD and the Galaxy is labelled up. It would be nice if the game gal map had names of regions on it. (But the new changes are ace and very helpful, especially the persistent route!)

Anyway, my post looks a bit more negative than I wanted it to but maybe that's how I feel.
