2.2 Gal Map Quality of Life Improvements

Thanks:

Very happy to see that the Gal Map is getting a further Quality of Life pass for 2.2.

While we've got some time before 2.2 drops, can we have a discussion about how we use the Gal Map and what we really need?

2.1 saw the introduction of States, Governments types, and Bookmarks.
Thank You.

One State View:
There is a bit of a problem with the current States view.
Since the GalMap can only really show one state per system, it shows the state of the ruling faction.
This is great except that if you are looking for the presence of a NEGATIVE state type (famine, retreat, war, bust, etc), then these states tend to happen among the non-ruling factions.
The ruling faction benefits from whatever trade and exploration is happening, so Ruling factions tend NOT to be in negative states.
It's actually impossible for a ruling faction to be in retreat.
Well, not in the System it's retreating FROM anyway - as a failed expansion, the faction is almost certainly ruling at the place it's retreating TO. But there's not much point in knowing where it's retreating TO, you can't fix it from there. Don't sidetrack me - where was I?
Oh yes.
So if you are looking for a war to join, you only see wars for conquering the system. Not all the dozens of wars for an asset that are happening among the non-ruling factions.

What I would like to see is a One-State-View, where you can only chose ONE state to view, but you can see EVERY system where that state occurs - even if it's not the ruling faction.
THAT would be a Quality of Life improvement that would help CMDRs:
a) Find the missions and activities they are looking for.
b) Help them see how their actions are affecting the BGS.

Grouped Colour Coded Switchable Bookmarks:
Some CMDRs need to make strategic plans, that require sophisticated visualisation tools.
All of the Groups in the Rise To Power have many systems that they need to monitor.
Often the strategic thinkers in PowerPlay and BGS groups have several projects or options or "what if" scenarios that they want to examine.
Being able to have your bookmarks Colour Coded into groups and to be able to Switch their visibilty on and off would really help.
PowerPlay strategists, BGS Masterminds, Community Goal Proposers.
Explorers would use it too: "Here are my discoveries. Here are my Earthlikes. Here are my Pristine Metallic Rings."

Lets have a look at what's coming in 2.2 for the Gal Map:

Lovely - Many thanks.
Being able to sort by Security level. - Woot!
Route Plotting by various filters. - mmm-hmm.

But what about Waypoints?
I would love to be able to mark out a number of waypoints and have the Route Plotter figure an optimal path among them.
And the number of waypoints I would like to tour is very high. For example-
* Touring the Alliance Control Systems is a hundred waypoint journey.
* Even just touring all the PowerPlay HQs will be 11 waypoints.
* Most of us have worked a multi stop trade route.

I can think of a few other things the Gal-Map could have, but I'd like to hear what other folks want to do with the Gal Map.
Over to you.

I personally think it ruins a core part of the game. You used to have to fly to each system to check out states, find combat zones and lucrative trade routes. Now it'll all be there for you on the galaxy map as part of tick boxes for the instant gratification crowd. Why don't we just go ahead and add a completely separate mode in which at the push of a button you will be zipped away to a combat zone, lucrative trade route, or on a pre-planned exploration route that has a bunch of neutron stars and black holes in it. Better yet, add autopilot as well so the game just does it all for you and you can catch up on Game of Thrones.

I mean it's become this bad

/sarcasm off

Did I get anyone? [haha]
