2.2 module storage unasked questions

Module storage is pretty self explanatory, not much too ask about it I guess.

Well actually it probably isn't as straight forward as it seems, for instance:

Where are they stored (all stations)?

Is there a cost for storage?

How many modules will we be able to store, is there a limit?

Does module storage apply to both modded modules and unmodded modules?

Are there any restrictions on the type of module that can be stored?

Depending on the answers to these questions and likely others, it will no doubt determine whether this is going to be a great or frustrating experience.

It seems weird to me that, the thing people actually asked for and wanted (module storage for their modded modules) seems to have been talked about WAY less than the ship transfer barely anyone (seemed to have) asked for...

Was there even any footage of module transfer in the live streams?

You can store any kind of module, including modified ones. There is no cost for storing modules. The modules are stored at the station you buy them at / remove them from your ship. I don't know if there is a limit to the number of modules you can store. You can pay to have your modules transferred to any station you're at (that has outfitting) for a cost, just like the ship transfer feature.

The module storage issue was talked almost to death previous to GamesCom ..... it was something that FD didn't introduce that should have been introduced .... the announcement that we will finally have some kind of storage makes it a victory for common sense all round.

Then we moved on to the next big thing, which is FD introducing something that many feel should not be introduced .....

.... and so it goes on

The mechanisms for module storage are an interesting thought though.

Obviously you'll be able to store an optional module, leaving an unused slot on your ship.

Required modules like an FSD must require you do a swap from one FSD in storage with the currently outfitted FSD.

In the outfitting screen I would assume you'll have the choice to buy a module, then you can sell or store a currently fitted module.

Modules will also use the same instant transfer mechanism so you'll be able to transfer or remote sell (I assume) any module and then swap the module into your ship.

You know what I would love in combination with module storage? Engineer modding directly from storage. As in, you don't have to actually swap to a different ship to modify (say) it's power plant, you put the power plant into storage and at the engineer base select the stored module to modify (should then incur the regular module transfer fee, I suppose). This would mostly alleviate the problem of cargo space on small ships and dedicated fighters when modding them.

"WHAT? No instant module transfer, I quit!"
Expect this to happen and the next step will be instant module transfer.

Maybe even remote engineering lol.

I'm sure this was part of it. Module transfer to work the same as ships - you can call for your module to be delivered for a given price.

From what I understand looking at the vid:

Where are they stored (all stations)?

The modules are stored at the station where you swap it out of your ship. The game remembers where a module is located.

Is there a cost for storage?

The storage itself is free, but you may be forced to pay for the smallest equivalent module variant which your ship will require in order to fly.

Also retrieving your modules from a far away station will of course cost credits.

How many modules will we be able to store, is there a limit?

No idea.

Does module storage apply to both modded modules and unmodded modules?

Every kind of module can be stored.

Are there any restrictions on the type of module that can be stored?

No.
