2.2 planet surfaces with new 'high' and 'ultra' settings?

I am very curious and would love to know, whether or not my fellow CV1-owning commanders have already gathered experiences within 2.2 (beta 6, but also earlier)

1) Have Oculus CV1 owners already tested the new planet surfaces in 2.2 beta 6? Is there an upgrade visible in VR, too?

2) Is the surfaces display affected by the new 'ultra' setting at all or is there no difference to 'high' in this regard?

3) And will the now "outdated" (not really, I hope) GTX980ti (i7 6700K; 16 GB Ram) be able to handle 'ultra'? (Without tweaking other stuff, like oversampling and so on. Just pure "default" settings.)

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Cheers anf fly safe and with profit,
Deggial

I use a GTX 970 and activated the new Asynchronous Space Warp feature of the Oculus runtime. Using this, i was able to test the VR Ultra setting with incredible performance (just a few judders here and there - VR high is no problem for my card). There is an thread here about using ASW.

And yes... The new shaders at high and ultra settings are breathtaking. The difference is remarkable and i am sure, your 980 TI will handle the high end settings quite well. VR in the Rift has improved a lot in the Beta. I havent tested Beta 6 though, but will tonight. If something has changed, i'll keep you updated.

Oh i forgot... The game looks much better now, using only the standard settings. HMD quality settings can also be tweaked from inside the game, so no need to fire up the Oculus SDK for better Quality anymore.

Do you mean no need for the debug tool?

There has been a fairly significant improvement to planet surfaces with 2.2 beta, especially from Orbital Cruise distances (also up close but perhaps it's less significant as the detail here was already good). However it doesn't seem to be across the board - most planets are definitely improved but I've had one or two where the surface is still quite blurry from mid-distance. Haven't compared High/Ultra as I don't usually use the presets but will do so time-permitting.

Nice find. This is the first I've heard of it - did you find out by accident or was it in the patch notes?

Note to self: when an update is released remember to try every single option in the menus (actually this is something I usually do, how sad :)).

Surely HMD quality has been there for ages, it was a slider and used to only go to 100% though as far as I remember?

Correct, until now it only went up to 1.00 but in the beta you have the option of 1.25, 1.50, 1.75 and 2.00 (representing pixel density) and it's changed from a slider to a drop-down.

I just wanted to confirm it looks amazing in 2.2. I turned on time warp for the oculus and can play on ultra with great performance. Time warp was a HUGE increase in performance for me. I'm running on a 980ti on a OC 4.0ghz 6700k sky lake. Prior to 2.2 and time warp I was running high, and getting poor performance more often than I liked. The planets look way more detailed to me now.
