Engineers 2.2 Ship GUI - what are your thoughts?

My thoughts are widely known on here as I and others did point out our suggestions many times. Yet even now, it still is a poor design and comes across like "work in progress". My thoughts: -

1. The Centre Popups are hugely unnecessary. Rid ALL of them and make us use our HUD Panels as you would expect a pilot to do so please. Rid: new box for Jumping to System & Security Level & Boom State & Press J to Abort; Rid: Fuel Scooping text; Rid Promotion notice; Rid Safe to Disengage; Rid Slow Down text not needed as we can hear it;; i.e. Rid the entire Centre Popup Box.

2. Move that info into the corresponding Cockpit Panel or HUD Panel. e.g. Jumping next to FSD Charge; Next System Security & Star Type beside Lower Left Panel where the Name should be known and not "UNKOWN"; Fuel Scooping next to the Fuel Level; Promotions only in the Coms as it shares similar sounds to Disengage and confuses us whilst being chased and waiting to dropout to a Station plus my screen is not an Arcade whilst I could be in battle at this time; Safe to Disengage beside FSD or Info Panel; Move You Have Left the No Fire Zone into the Info Panel as it takes up its own line beneath the Coms for some strange reason where nothing else does so and simply hangs without anything like we see on the Info Panel.

3. The Coms Panel is simply weird. For us to stop it displaying we must select the far left column then close which is very odd. Why can it not disappear for all columns once we close it?!

4. The Info Panel for me has only ever shown 4 lines of text whilst it constantly displays a background box for 6 or 7 lines. This looks a terrible clutter. Simply allow it to manage what Lines it does use to flexibly adjust.

5. We who use VoiceAttack know that the Panels have a vertical hold-scroll key so that we can define a starting point within it. How many times do we lose our Target Station Macro because the left Panel has been manually used. It needs similar for a Horizontal Rest or even a Plugin that does a better direct job of this.

I'll stop there and let you guys chip in. Let's not get into the old fighting about this. Simply add your own ideas or have respect not to comment and find a thread that does interest you to add your own ideas. It's great that there's many new additions but I'm baffled why the GUI is lagging in quality.

The SC lines were proved to be an error for being missing in early BETA so they came back later. It does make sense to be a special mode different to normal space.

I'm glad SC lines are back. However, seeing as many people enjoyed not having them I'm all up for it to be a toggle - like orbit lines. Everybody would be happy.

I don't mind the new jump info window but it seems to be a poorly thought out late addition. It provides very little info and most of the time for me it is useless because I know the security and PP status of all the systems in my home area. The star class appears in the Info window, why isn't that in the new window with the other info about where you are jumping to?

I've wondered since beta why that Info window is so large, its largely unused yet other HUD elements are crammed with tabs and pages and buttons and too much stuff. The entire HUD could use a redesign to streamline it and make it more logical.

I don't use VoiceAttack, so VA issues are not an issue for me.

The Info Panel is just a little short of useless to me. I barely notice it, and whatever info happened to flash by on it I've already missed by the time I even notice there was something there. It could go away entirely. I don't care for all the background it displays either, since there's never that much information in it anyways.

I don't use the Comms panel much, except to check my Incoming Mission Critical Updates, but I've never had any problems with operating it. I use a custom keybind to my flight stick to navigate, and when I'm done with it it closes up nicely.

I do agree, the info that is displayed could be better consolidated into one or two locations at most. There is a lot of redundant information displayed more than once.

I happen to like the center box, but it would be better if it were closer to the top of display. It gets forgotten often that our Canopies are Augmented Reality Displays, which is why we lose our recticals when canopies are shot out.

I'm rather partial to this solution:

Especially since half the information box is empty.

I would be happy if the star type was the only information in the centre, and all the other crap was top right...

1. I very much like the HUD info on the destination system. Nice, tidy, informative. If anything, i'd go with what fruitbat suggested, as it would pack all information to one location again, without unnecessarily squeezing it to the corner. (For me the location of the info field is good for in combat use to show additional info without obscuring the view. For non-combat info like fuel scooping or traveling, it's perfectly fine to put that to a more centered position. )
2. Not really. See point 1.
3. I agree. The comms panel could use some improvement. I even thought it was promised several months ago to improve it, but i guess it got lost again.
4. Never noticed that. You might be right, but it does not trouble me at all.

We now have the next jump destination and distance noted three times on the HUD. This is unnecessary. The new rectangular box should go and any additional info it provides can go in the top right box.
