Gents,
As I've been rather impressed with the level of responses and their quality here I wanted to ask about motion systems to see what others have done. I've found several Youtube videos of guys with 2, 3 and 6 DOF motion setups playing Elite but in almost all of them the motion looks extremely jerky and seems to make it hard to fly. Some of the owners said after the video they turned the motion way down to make it more subtle and not throw them around so much.
I currently spend a lot of time in racing sims, probably 50% with Elite being 40% and others being the last 10%. I know a lot about these systems in terms of driving but not really for flight. I've had a Pagnian V2 platform sorta fall in my lap at an almost stupid low price making me seriously consider it. It would take a little work to adapt it to my Obutto Ozone but doesn't seem impossible at all. The Pagnian seems smooth and much quieter than others I've seen in video. I also love that it's very compact and just sits below the seat as many of them stick out a good 2-3 feet behind the seat and I don't have the room for that.
Here are a few quick shots of my current cockpit setup so you can get an idea of where I am now, as I said I'd be putting the V2 right under the seat. I do need to take some measurements of it and my setup to see how much it's going to raise my seating position and what adjustments to my current wheel placement will be needed.
So to those of you that have done something like this how much do you feel it adds to the immersion? I already have a fairly extensive setup in terms of immersion between my Rift, ButtKicker, VoiceAttack and my Warthog HOTAS. Seems adding motion and I might not ever get out of the thing!
Thanks for any input you have,
-Ross
