This may seem quite harsh, but hear me out.
Currently, as if 2.3 if our canopy is gone, we have until our air runs out to fix it.
If you can't reach a station before then, you're dead. We don't bring good life support on long trips, because we know if we lose our canopy, were dead anyway.
If, you allow canopies to be repaired from a full breach, then we still don't need good life support. Just repair it and be in your way again. Very simple, even more so with O2 synthesis.
However, if you can not repair a blown out canopy, except at a station, then it gets more interesting, because we're getting O2 synthesis in 2.4!
Now, when your canopy is gone, it's gone for good. BUT, if you fit a good enough life support, you can limp to the nearest station, hopping between planets and finding materials to keep your O2 levels up.
That's gameplay.
Imagine how intense it would be, trying to work out when to land to refill the O2, or how long to spend gathering materials or jumping. That's the kind of gameplay that's fun and involved. (IMHO)
The current way is instant death mode.
The new way is easy mode.
My suggestion is gameplay mode!
