It's just, different..
We've had a few of these threads now, the answer seems to be, it'll happen when it happens.
The problem for me isn't so much the pace, it's the lack of scope.
There are some good things, thargoids look and sound cool, fighting them is a challenge.
New things have happened, there are new weapons and a new utility, there have been 2.4 related CG's, INRA bases and destroyed megaships, Thargoids appearing in their USS and now also in Distress calls and at destroyed megaships.
There is..... progress.
Trouble is, it feels a little cold and detached, and there still isn't a true "non fighting" was to interact with the Thargoids (beyond their reaction to guardian tech).
If i was doing a wish list, it would have:
Reveal more hidden locations: Make them have interesting things to do on them, set a trail or puzzle to complete to find these hidden places. The INRA bases are a step towards this, but once you find them and listen to the logs, there is nothing else to do there, and it still involves dozens of hours of manually scanning a planet looking for a tiny speck which is just mind destroying after a while.
More Thargoid interaction: We can fight them, but we can't research them, i can't try and learn their language and communicate, i cant research into their background, story, biology, tech. This one comes purely from the idea that we had to make a choice, fight them or understand them. We have the tools to fight them, we don't have the tools (or any mechanics) to do any research or science on them. Again, there is a tiny bit, they have different markings, they react to meta alloys and guardian tech, but the game doesn't push that or encourage it (via missions, CG's, story line etc), and it doesnt seem to develop.
Narrative: We should have missions to do this and that with Thargoids, passengers trying to flee or to go see a Thargoid, stations building up defences, just a feeling of tension and fear (or anger) starting to build.
None of this needs to be happening quickly, but should all have started to happen from day one. Right now i should be logging in and settling in to a research mission to find out more about the Thargoids, i could be looking in previously permit locked systems, finding bits of strange tech, little puzzles to solve, i could spend weeks doing little search missions which fill in the story a little at a time, but make it interactive, similar to the Thargoid base puzzle (take these items put them there) or the Guardians (take these items put them there..... ok , so it's the same thing, but along those lines).
Instead what we have now is, a thing happens, we do the thing, then nothing else changes or moves for x number of weeks, then another thing happens, we see the new thing, then nothing else happens for x number of weeks.
I understand why it is the way it is, but it could have been better if it was: three things happen, one takes months to complete, one is quicker, x number of weeks later, another 3 things happen, again one will take months to complete, and so on and so on.. so you log in and thing "today i will do a little more of the thargoid language mission, or maybe i'll try and find more of those hidden tech items, or possibly i'll go back and look for more of those secret lore missions" that would have been more fun
