2.4 The Return Have We Just Not Found Everything

It's just, different..
We've had a few of these threads now, the answer seems to be, it'll happen when it happens.
The problem for me isn't so much the pace, it's the lack of scope.
There are some good things, thargoids look and sound cool, fighting them is a challenge.
New things have happened, there are new weapons and a new utility, there have been 2.4 related CG's, INRA bases and destroyed megaships, Thargoids appearing in their USS and now also in Distress calls and at destroyed megaships.
There is..... progress.
Trouble is, it feels a little cold and detached, and there still isn't a true "non fighting" was to interact with the Thargoids (beyond their reaction to guardian tech).

If i was doing a wish list, it would have:
Reveal more hidden locations: Make them have interesting things to do on them, set a trail or puzzle to complete to find these hidden places. The INRA bases are a step towards this, but once you find them and listen to the logs, there is nothing else to do there, and it still involves dozens of hours of manually scanning a planet looking for a tiny speck which is just mind destroying after a while.

More Thargoid interaction: We can fight them, but we can't research them, i can't try and learn their language and communicate, i cant research into their background, story, biology, tech. This one comes purely from the idea that we had to make a choice, fight them or understand them. We have the tools to fight them, we don't have the tools (or any mechanics) to do any research or science on them. Again, there is a tiny bit, they have different markings, they react to meta alloys and guardian tech, but the game doesn't push that or encourage it (via missions, CG's, story line etc), and it doesnt seem to develop.

Narrative: We should have missions to do this and that with Thargoids, passengers trying to flee or to go see a Thargoid, stations building up defences, just a feeling of tension and fear (or anger) starting to build.

None of this needs to be happening quickly, but should all have started to happen from day one. Right now i should be logging in and settling in to a research mission to find out more about the Thargoids, i could be looking in previously permit locked systems, finding bits of strange tech, little puzzles to solve, i could spend weeks doing little search missions which fill in the story a little at a time, but make it interactive, similar to the Thargoid base puzzle (take these items put them there) or the Guardians (take these items put them there..... ok , so it's the same thing, but along those lines).

Instead what we have now is, a thing happens, we do the thing, then nothing else changes or moves for x number of weeks, then another thing happens, we see the new thing, then nothing else happens for x number of weeks.
I understand why it is the way it is, but it could have been better if it was: three things happen, one takes months to complete, one is quicker, x number of weeks later, another 3 things happen, again one will take months to complete, and so on and so on.. so you log in and thing "today i will do a little more of the thargoid language mission, or maybe i'll try and find more of those hidden tech items, or possibly i'll go back and look for more of those secret lore missions" that would have been more fun :)

Seeing that 2.4 seems to have stalled could it be that there is more out there but we just haven't found it yet.

FD have said before there is stuff from other updates that is still undiscovered.

Not that it easy to find secrets as they are just dotted randomly about.

Any else agree or am I being hopeful and there is nothing new yet?

I cant remember the video/article but even before 2.4 DBOBE advised we hadnt found everything out there in the black (even before the Thargoids). Commanders missing some hints in game etc or causal players not picking up on things. (I think even things that Commanders had found but not put on the Forums)

Im sure theres content thats buried.

It kinda reminds me of the time they sent us to look for generation ships into the black, but the actual models of those ships were added ingame only a year later with a patch. Fun times.

Fdevs do this kind of things all the time ;)

At mid december they'll show their non interactive Thargoid capital ship and 2.4 will be back into standby mode until March 27 2018, when they'll release Beyond part 1.

Or the Formidine Rift. We swear! There's something MYSTERIOUS out there! And it was just a non-interactive ship with some logs (the ship model was created long after the Rift mystery started and I'm pretty sure voice acting happened after too). And the backlash was so swift Drew had to come on and swear that this isn't it, it is just part of the mystery, not all of it! Then after months of waiting for the book to tell us of the REAL mystery, well, I won't spoil it. But, don't expect much.

Huh, What a clever way to give the illusion that you have added content to your game over the past 4 years..... we just haven't found it yet. If it is ever "found".....

The Sean Murray Gambit: "oh yes these features are in the game, but the game is Sooo Vast that the odds of ever encountering it are basically zero. But yeah it's totally in the game!"

Well, so far we got everything the few Devs were able to finish.

- Alien Signal Sources
- V1.1 era CGs to buy more time
- AX Weapons done with the buy-more-time CGs to... buy more time
- hints to "Mysterious stuff added" to buy even more time

It's not like they're stalling, but with them at maybe 10-15% of their old Development speed, that's just how fast (or slow) they can move things right now.
Skeleton team, the rest is working on other more profitable Projects (and their deadlines).
Get used to ELITE taking a backseat for quite some time to come.

Given their new feedback (Beyond) Threads, they've literally just started concepting V3.0 with a minimal team.
For all I know, everything you currently see in-game is more or less everything they were able to put into 2.4 so far.

When it comes to the Story Arc, that arc seems to run on ~25 MilliAmps and only covers a few Microns every day.

If anything, enjoy the calm Galaxy :)

The Big Red Thargoid arrives ...... ;)

I've been following the INRA thread in the Aliens section. The latest base discovery reveals an attack by a Thargoid Mother Ship. This hasn't appeared yet. It may be Aegis' response to any happening like this will be to 'develop' the Type 10 and make it available.

Also, the Guardians story is still progressing, and we have yet to discover if and when it will interact again with the Thargoid story.

There is certainly more to come with 2.4 and the Thargoids, but I don't think it's anything we can find, but rather we just simply have to wait for Frontier to slowly progress their story arc.

For example, there are Aegis stations popping up around the Pleaides now. My hunch is that these stations will come under attack from the Thargoids as a retaliation for humans encroaching into bug space. That's when new stuff will begin to happen, but until then we just have to wait to find out what that new stuff will be. This isn't a story which the players unfold, but rather it's Frontier's narrative and we are just along for the ride at whatever pace they dictate.

Now, what that new stuff will be is anyone's guess. What level of effort has Frontier committed to implementing the Thargoid narrative? We'll need to wait to find out.

If its is based on FD realing the next piece im happy with that, I do think it has been good so far.

Was talking to friend last night and we was questioning if they let you fight the bugs for a while to get used to attacking and planing ready for the big invasion

How do ye know stuff has been discovered but not listed on the forums?

Ive heard this fairy tale being bandied around since I started some 18 months ago so I went exploring and ye know what I found? Nothing...because theres nothing to find and the stories of supposed hidden content are just that...stories that cannot be proven either way. Its almost as inane as religion...believe in something ye cant see or prove but because some charismatic salesman said its true, then it must be true.

I dont believe in religion, and I dont believe Braben either...all I see is a guy with a dream trying to sell that dream by hyping the product into something its not. By all means, prove that wrong by showing us something previously never found or documented with a datestamp that means its been here fer some time all along.

Cant do it can ye? So really all ye have is faith and its true what they say...one born every minute ^

Red thargoids could start a mass attack on most stations in the bubble, commanders who logged out in a station that got destroyed will log in to the rebuy screen, all other stored ships lost for good.
All humans would have to retreat to colonia and together with the three superpowers engage in a fight for humanities survival for the next few months.
Now that would be both exciting and dangerous, a few USSs and CGs should suffice instead huh? /s

And a few thousand customers angry about the loss of their assets would be a nice addition too! /s

Proof? Thought so. Please stop making your lies sound like facts, they aren't.
