2.5 - stop the hype train

This is basically a repost of a thread I posted in anticipation of 2.1. I think it's still relevant.

I think you will be disappointed. There will be bugs, lots of bugs. The game will not turn into Eve and they will not introduce a client-server architecture. There will be no epic quests and you should not even think about becoming the saviour of the universe. Don't expect thargoids. You'll think Engineers improvements to Engineers are just a shallow and meaningless gameplay addition, basically the same grind again even more grind, and they should have improved the core professions added space legs or atmospheric planets instead. You'll not feel like you got your money's LEP's worth. Ultimately Horizons Beyond is a major rip-off and 2.1 2.5 is just the final nail in the coffin of a game that died 2 4 years ago when Frontier decided to remove offline mode.

On the bright side, they will improve the game - just like they did with every update so far.

Bah, they are adding colors back to planets again so I'm excited! Ain't nothing stopping this hype train for CMDR Mengy.

The game will not turn into Eve ...

Eveification detected.

I'm thinking of 2.3 and wondering if that refutes this assertion. [where is it]

I swear, I can't think of anything about 2.3 which improved the game for me.
It was just holo-me, the camera-suite and multicrew, right?

And the really horrible map bug. Don't forget the really horrible map bug.

Didn't see any hype train here...

Stop the doom train would be more appropriate.

There are actually quite a few posts saying: "Beyond will fix/replace/overhaul/revamp all core features, etc." which is very unlikely in my opinion. Let's just say I expect there will be just as much complain threads as we get with every update...

*nod* there's a few posts over in the Modes section that seem to think that Squadrons and Carriers are going to turn the game into a PvP nirvana, and I can't help feeling that there's going to be tears before bedtime.

Of curse, people are already complaining about it and it's not even out

Stop with the facts man, it is all about feels! :D

The new planet tech is all I want from the entire 'Beyond' release ... so I am really looking forward to that, Couldn't care less for the rest. No hype train for me :)

I suspect most disappointed thing for players will be trading. Judging by posts people expect trading to become somehow very different - which is unlikely to happen. Also FD won't give some in-game telegraph to discover prices in station nearby, thus allowing you to sell low and buy high and gain guaranteed profits.

FD will give more tools in similar vein what they have already in game - and if you don't like those, you most likely won't find new additions appealing neither.

Trading could gain a lot with improved UI though, so I hope that it is part of redesign.

Sarcastic undertones aside, it's still good advice.
Hype only ever benefits one side of the equation, and that side is not the player side.;).

These "power-ups" have been around since the early years of video games. Eve doesn't have the trademark on these.

Heck, I could get shield/armor upgrades in Everquest in 1999, and have people "engineer" (craft) them for me.

I think a lot of people are cautiously optimistic about the Beyond updates. Obviously, people looking for hard content won't be too excited, but the majoritity of the (forum) community have seen enough half-baked new features and are looking forward to some fleshing out.

It may not be perfect, it may not be everything we dream it can be, or even everything FDev dreams it can be - but it will be better. And that's what's most important.

Plus, no more beige plague!

That is all true.
However to point out obvious streamlining
you take the big IPs of the game niche
and use them as a comparison.

Nothing more did i want to point out,
aside maybe from this:

We were told in the pre release phase of the game
that elite never would go for player factions.
We have them for quite a while.

We asked FD to iterate on the game mechanics
better representing a living and breathing galaxy,
yet still are waiting on stepping stones for that.

True, and I do think that these additions made the game worse ;)
